: My 350 is missing

So my 350 is misssing/ shuddering pretty bad under any load. At idle its barely noticeable, but still there. Seems like fuel or ignition, so I replaced the sparkplugs, distributor cap and rotor, fuel pump, and rebuilt the carb. None of this made any difference. I'm thinking the distributor should come next, but I really don't wanna shell out the cash for something that may or may not end up being the problem. Any other suggestions?

Usually a miss under load is ignition, you are on the right track.
Have you done wires yet?

did you check you wires for burns ? did you get the fire order right ? don't just throw parts at it .......it will only cost you money and fustrate you

more on wires since it wasn't on your replacement part list.

cheap trick (not the band)

tonight, find yourself a real dark location, absolutely no light.

pop the hood with the engine running and see if the wires are arcing. it has to be dark!

you can do it in a garage with the door shut but please do it for a short duration. I don't think I need to explain that any further.

if you see the wires glowing (usually at the plug or cap)or little arcs of light from wire to wire or to ground. there's your miss.

if you have a multimeter, you can also ohm the wires.

No more than 1000 OHMS per inch of wire.

Yeah, checked the wires with a multimeter and got them wet to check for any leakage. They seem fine.

first , i would do a compression check !! you may have a broken valve spring?
next i would let the engine cool and start it cold ,run the engine for around a minute ,then shut it down and get a spray bottle of water and spray each header (real close to the head) and this will tell you what cylinder is dead,(sometimes the cylinder is firing but just barely ) and you can tell by how slow the water evaporates! If the cylinder is firing it will emmediatly evaporate the water .
This method will at least find your dead hole.

Do what Greg said above. I did a couple of months ago and found my wires arcing like crazy. I live in the country so I could leave the door open. The miss I had been chaseing for years was finally gone. Believe it or not the wires were the special order date coded wires that had not been on for that many miles. I put a set of AC Delco wires on it and it runs great!!

the specification is 1000 ohms per foot IIRC.

You are correct, what a misprint for a so called Auto Teacher. Thanks for catching the error.
