I have never used a engine lift plate but have seen them used many times. My question is, how do the threads in an aluminum intake hold up to the weight?

This has been debated many times on this sight...It's been said that it will be no problem at all, however I always chicken out & use the old chains....

They hold up just fine. Just make sure that you use a bolt that will amlost bottom out in the hole. This makes sure that there are enough threads in contact, and you'll have no problems. I prefer to use my carb studs. I thread them all the way in, and then put the plate on, and snug up the nuts good. (use big flat washers on top of the plate)

I've lifted several small blocks this way with aluminum manifolds. Some with TH350's attatched as well. Never had a problem smile.gif

ditto to what bulb122 said. My machinist does work for most of the racers around here and uses this type of lift plate in his shop a lot.

I just did it with a complete all iron 350 with a th350 on the back of it. All accessories and all. Just like all the other guys side, make sure that the carb studs are threaded all the way done into the intake so that you don't rip them out.

Snug up the bolts or nuts pretty good. The engine will be bouncing so you want the plate to be one with the engine.

The 5/16" holes in the manifold have a pullout resistance upwards of 5000# each, so the margin of safety is about 10 fold.
