: Anyone running C-clip eliminators in their 12 bolts?

I have my rear end all apart and had it powdercoated. I figure this is the time to get a set of c-clip eliminators, but I just got off the phone with Jegs, and they told me they are for drag use only. My original plan was to add the eliminators, and run my stock axles, and next spring run a set of Strange or Mark Williams, etc. but they say you have to run one or the other. Anyone have any info they can give me, or should I just run the beefier axles with stock c-clips? I am convinced I need something to help the rear end be a little stronger as it has a roller 396, with a 6-71 in the near future, and will be running street slicks.

I'm running Strange C-clip elimintators on stock axles(specific part number). No issue in two years. I too was after a temporary fix. I'm upgrading to MW before the car hits the track again with a new combo.

I just got the Strange Catalogue and they have c-clip eliminators for street/strip use. I havent called them about this, I too thought the eliminators were for drag applications only. The ones for the street have different bearings I believe. I am going to upgrade my rear end and suspension this winter. Maybe give them a call

You won't need C clip eliminators. The calipers will hold the axles in , in case of a failure. This is what I'm doing anyway. Thanks to FOFDYFO's web site, I found that out.

I use a Strange C clip elim. on my 70. I bought their 33 spline axles, C clip elim. kit and an Eaton posi. Their C clip kit for the street is a heavy duty oval track style. I tell you the bearings are huge! I drove this setup on the street w/4:56's for about 2 years to some local cruises. Now the car is a drag only car and I STILL run the same setup. I HIGHLY recommend Strange products. If you ever plan to race the car get the C clip elim. kit. It only takes once for an axle to come out, its not pretty. Now's the time to do it while it's apart. Good luck!!

I have been running moser c-clip elimators in my 70 chevelles 12 bolt for almost two years and have had no problems. I have heard that they are not made to handle alot of side loading so I keep it cool around corners. My car was running mid 11s when I had the big block in it and I was afraid of breaking an axle and wreaking the car.

Strange makes a kit with tapered bearings and hardernded PRO-RACE AXLES.I think these are the only way to go for a hot street car.

From the strange website..
ABOUT THE A1100 GM kit..
We offer 10 and 12 bolt GM owners the best of both worlds. A thru-hardened pro-race axle that has been redesigned for circle track and hard core street-strip use. This is only possible due to the design of factory 10 and 12 bolt rear ends and extensive testing by strange engineering. Our specially designed c-clip eliminator kit (A1100) employs giant timkin unit bearings which survive severe side loads and constant use (Ball bearings are designed for DRAG RACE ONLY). The axle shaft is tapered to resist bending loads and the axle flange is machined to a generous radius for maximum side load strength.

Another vote for Strange!

I run the Strange axles and tappered bearing C-clip eliminator also. Very nice and have not leaked yet. Strange was helpfull when I installed them. But I believe you have to buy direct from them to get their support. Prices were the same as Jegs.

So will a stock axle with c-clip eliminators work well with my application? It will not be a strip car, I may run in once or twice down the 1/8 mile. graemlins/clonk.gif

If you're REALLY only gonna race the car once or twice, I'd pop for the Moser replacement c-clip axles - I think they're about $225, and a pretty nice axle. But, if you will have a motor with more than 450 horsepower and running slicks at the track a few times a year (or Drag Radials on the street & track), I'd pop for the Strange "street" c-clip eliminators and their axles. I do believe you need to replace your axles to run the eliminators, but I'm not positive. Just my opinion, though.

If your car has big power and will hook up hard on the street..... Id run the strange package mentioned above.
If yours isnt a big power car that will hook hard. and you dont want to spring for aftermarket axles....
Dont hack up a good housing just to run the ball bearing type of eliminator. None of the manufactuers will reccommend or warranty them for steet use.

That said.. I am running Moser axles and ball bearing C-Clip eliminators only because I wasnt aware of the Strange kit at the time of purchase. I am getting by only because I run very few street miles.
