Haven't heard much about the 69 year in particular but in the 66/67 world it's relatively rare but we've discussed a few here. I would imagine it would be the same for later years, 68-72, as well. Sadly since there were no stats kept on anything but individual options (i.e., nothing on combinations), there are no 'numbers' to cite.

A guy I worked with still has the '67 he bought new. It has buckets, 4 speed, and no console. Nice chrome bezel around the shifter.

I had a 70SS that was bucket seats column shift automatic. I bought it from the second owner, so I doubt it had been modified

I know of a '68 L78 Chevelle with buckets, 4 speed and no console. It's a one owner car and came from the factory that way.

I have a 70 SS 396, 4 speed, buckets, no console. The hump that welds to the cutout in the floor is also different for the no console application.

I have a 69 SS Convertible 396, 4 speed, buckets, no console.
I think when they bought the car is was cheaper with out the console so I think they just cheaped out :D But I do like it without the console looks more racing type:D

My recently purchased '66 Chevelle L78 4-speed "barn find" car is a for sure buckets-no-console car. :)

BTW, I need the large rubber "grommet" that covers the shift boot retainer ring, and blends it into the carpet. I need a black one. If anyone can help, please PM me! :D

Somewhat rare. 9.6% of '69 Chevelles equipped with buckets had no console. 79,871 had the A51 bucket seat option and 72,201 had the D55 console option (only available with buckets). So 7,670 were buckets with no console.

Now Von, how did you get that information? I thought specific options weren't tracked due to the shear numbers and multiple plants in production???

Your a slippery one.

My 68 started out as a 4 speed no console car too.

Your a slippery one.:cool:Individual option quantities are known but not combinations. Simply a matter of working the two known numbers. Now if one were to throw in how many bucket seat cars without consoles but had automatic or manual transmissions, that'd be another story since either transmission could be had either way.

Isn't the shifter different from a console vs. a non console car or is it buckets vs. bench seat car?

Extrapolation is the word for that I believe. Estimating based on comparing know percentages of both.

That's the one. In this case it wasn't extrapolation, just simple math since they were known numbers. The number of cars with bucket seat option is known and so is the number of cars with console option. Since you couldn't get a console without buckets, the number with buckets and no console is just subtraction. Then use that number and the total number with buckets to figure the percentage of cars with buckets/no console.

Isn't the shifter different from a console vs. a non console car or is it buckets vs. bench seat car?

I believe the shifter gate was the same, but the shifter hump was different between console and no console, and the shifter handle differed between bench and bucket applications. I suppose it is plausible that you could have ordered a 4-speed with buckets and no console, and received your car with a console hump and shifter with the console bent handle. But logic says that the non console orders would be outfitted with the bench seat hump and no rear console mount. The possible configs are numerous.

For what it's worth, my second 68SS came originally with bucket sets, no console, and column shifted 3-speed automatic. It always looked to me like something was missing. I prefer the console when buckets are ordered.
