: WIW? 69 Chevelle SS L78
amartinson Dec 16th, 07, 7:58 PM A friend of mine is interested in a Chevelle that his brother in law is thinking about selling. I don't have personal knowledge of the car but here is the info as given to me:
What's it worth??
1969 Chevelle SS
-396/375hp (CE block from early 1970)
-M21 and posi rear are the originals
-air pump? removed and in the trunk
-Green with black vinyl top and black interior
-44K miles
-Kansas built
-He is the second owner, bought the car with 8K
-No paint work besides a repair on the left front fender from being backed into in the driveway
-In storage since the 80's
-Good to Excellent unrestored condition
-Unsure what paperwork is available
Chris R Dec 17th, 07, 12:35 AM Can he get any pics?

At this point, no. The car is in a storage building very tightly packed in with several other cars. He saw the car, but pictures would be impossible right now.
Morin69ss396 Dec 17th, 07, 8:06 AM I think it would depend greatly on the condition of the sheet metal. If it's all 100% rust free I would pay $20K + for it.
amartinson Dec 17th, 07, 8:45 AM Really?? Average retail on KBB is in the 50K range. I was curious if the warranty engine affected the value much but that seems excessive.

50K's not the average.
CE would affect. Origninal docs may offset.
Can't say with out you know what
Sergio 69 SS396 Dec 19th, 07, 6:13 PM i am not into vinyl tops or green 69's. but i would say 30k. fully restored, 40-55k. i just had my original 69 true SS396 professionally appraised (for insurance) at 30k. it's in great shape but could use another restoration.
CRUZN69 Dec 19th, 07, 7:17 PM Sadly the Kelly Blue Book doesn't buy cars. They are not even close to the market on most cars.
At www.collectorcartraderonline.com They have listed for sale 114 1969 Chevelles.
Of the 114 cars
11 are priced over $50,000
8 are priced between $40,000 to $49,900
22 are priced between $30,000 to $39,900
The rest, 73 are under $30,000
amartinson Dec 19th, 07, 8:40 PM I was only using KBB as a reference. I asked here because I wanted an idea of true market value. I would have thought that the L78 would be worth more, but I also expected the CE block to hurt the value. I just had no idea how much.
Obviously, value is highly dependant on paperwork and condition. If it was me that was looking to buy, I would have all that info. I am just trying to help out a friend.
Thanks for all the replies!! :beers:
oldtimebaseballfan Dec 20th, 07, 10:14 PM First of all, the 69 SS is almost impossible to tell if it is a real SS without the original paperwork or build sheet or original untouched engine. That is some of the drop in value.
Secondly, it is fairly easy to stamp CE on a block pad. Another drop in value.
Third, the green and vinyl top are not high demand colors and option. Another drop in value.
If your friend is not knowledgeable about 69s, he should take someone who is, since it is supposed to be mostly original. It would help to know what to look for.
Jimmy P Dec 21st, 07, 12:57 AM This COULD be a nice high dollar car. But, as mentioned, you'll need paperwork and documentation. We'd all like to see pics.
The folks on here can tell a LOT about authenticity, if you post the pics.
Stefano Dec 21st, 07, 10:24 PM Real 1969 Chevelle L78 Rag Tops are very scarce and are certainly desirable collectables. Many factors can affect the value of a vehicle. Documentation, Options, Condition, color, etc.
There is a real deal L78 rag with a factory M22 and 4.10 gears listed for sale in the Team Chevelle Classifieds.
