Anyone know where I can find a BBC bellhousing for my 68? I don't want a scatter shield. Looking for the stock bellhousing that is made for the 168 tooth flywheel and 11" clutch setup.

The last 3 numbers on the casting are 621...

Good Luck

There are 3 different casting numbers which work (I'll post the 3 tonight when I get home). The bigger bell housings ARE NOT specifically used on BBs. They were used on many engines, even straight 6 cylinders with a HD clutch. Without looking just for the numbers, the FASTEST and EASIEST way to quickly identify the big housing, is to look at the bulge for the starter nose. The small housings are straight on BOTH sides. But, on the big housings, the starter bulge sticks out about 1in on the right side. This makes it very easy to immediately identify one at a quick glance. Be careful though, the truck housings are also like this. BUT, the truck housings have an addition big bulge around the bottom of the housing to accomodate the 12in clutch used in trucks. Also, the hole in the center of truck housings for the front of the tranny is too big for a car tranny.
Over the years, I've been buying them at swap meets for $25-50.

I have a "621" bellhousing I bought a few months ago when I was going more for a restoration than a bracket racer. I will be buying a steel housing/scatter shield.

This bellhousing is in perfect clean condition and is now for sale....... :D Email me

Ctrain, off your topic, sorry... good move John, as my launches get more and more aggressive ( testing the limits of the suspension), that "lightweight" bellhousing is starting to give me nightmares. graemlins/boring.gif

Don't know if it is true or not, but it's enough for me to get a steel housing for the high HP and RPM's my car will produce. graemlins/waving.gif

The 3 housing numbers are:
3872444
3899621
464697
The above numbers are in the order of sequence of their production. That is, the 444 was first made about 65-67, 621 was about 67-70s? and 697 was the later version. ALL THREE are virtually identical and TOTALLY interchangeable.

ctrain, I have casting a #6263756 aluminum bellhousing for sale that I used behind my 502 with an 11 inch clutch. It is in great shape and comes with the ball stud and rubber boot. Someone told me it was from a early eightees truck but it works great. E-mail me if interested as you can have it cheap. Bill.

I have the original bellhousing removed from my 68 SS396 with dust cover. Let me know if you haven't found one. smile.gif

Is the truck bellhousing bad to use? I have access to one, but would rather have the proper 621 housing. It's amazing that I have emailed those of you that say you have one, but nobody replies.

ctrain, I never did get an e-mail from you. I am at sasobvo@netzero.com. The 532 worked fine on my 502 powered Corvette with an M-21 and 11 inch clutch so I see no reason why it wouldn't work for you but I am not an expert in this area either. I only took it off to put a scattershield in for some trips to the track.

Bill.
