: Track Results.. now an "11 second" ride

Yay. LOL I think I picked just about the hardest route here, thats for sure.
The track today was a disaster-- I had 1 sub 12 run, one run where I shifted 1-3 and nuked the run, and one run where my car broke traction at somewhere between the 800-1000ft mark. Between my dads videotape and my friends video tape, I should I have a good shot of that tonight or tomorrow. I'll try to get my 11 sec run (nothing exciting at all...) up tonight if it doesn't get too late.
I only got three runs in.. there was about 1.5hrs of track downtime because a car exploded something and dripped mobil 1 all the way down the right lane. It took them forever to clean up, Right after the clean up, the one 8 second car at the track was to run, and he let off and did 11 sec, then one more radial car went, then I went (all right lane, right after the "cleanup" of the spill) and then my rear swung out at like 800 feet. They closed the track again and went to check and clean the track after I lost it that far out.
It was crowded and this oil explosion really messed the track up. The 8 second car did a run in the other lane later in the night, high 8's quite a show for a street night where slicks are NOT allowed.
Anyway, here is the slip: I am running 26*10.5 ET Streets (like 8" of tread width). I feel even with my messed up pinion angle 28*12.5ET Streets is an instant 1.6x 60'. Feel free to let me know where you think I can take this car with a decent hook, and I am also extremely suspicisous of my torque converter, and thinking of just flat out buying a new ATI and sticking it in there to see.
I'll stick to just the one good run, the other slips are pretty useless (12.9 @ 79.99 (slip from oil mid-mid end of track and let off coast slowdown), the other one was like 13.50 @ 64 or something (missed shift)).

R/T .707
60' 1.825
330 4.961
1/8 7.594
MPH 93.01
1000' 9.881
1/4 11.819
MPH 116.03

85 degrees, humid. MPH was off by .59 vs last time at the track in 78* weather with 48% humidity. Unfortunatley I couldn't get a duplicate run, and my 2nd sets of runs, I did a harder burnout but had a 1.9x 60' on both of those after lowering the PSI. Initial run was 18psi cold, 26psi in the air bag, a very "no drama" affair..

Thanks for the help all TC members who deal with my insane blithering in one form or another!

Congrats dude! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Unfortunately you won't be happy stopping there. Break out the sawzall and the welder. Time for a cage and mini tub :D

Matt, I'm happy to see you break into the 11's smile.gif

For a hefty car you are moving out nicely - for contrast consider that my '65 is ~ 500 lbs lighter.

Before you give up on your converter, did you scan the rpm's as you went through the lights - that is a more accurate way to check for torque converter efficiency/slip.

Thomas,

I really wish I had "time" to do it. I only got one 11 sec run down, and I was looking only at max RPM and oil pressure.
Once I get some more free time, I will try to get back for more runs. I know the converter is slipping at like 7-9%, I plotted it out using data from both a dyno run and a strip RPM.
But can't you make an "inneficcent" (sorry on spelling!) converter that slips at 7-9%? I am also a little concerned about the possibility an excessive pinion angle is eating a little power. But moreso on the TQ.
BTW, the dyno vid is up: its the one 6/16, dyno runs, easy launch whatever down at the "new vids" area of my site.
I know I get alot of flak about using dyno numbers on this board since I still go to the strip, but however you slice it... 461rwhp.. or 565 flywheel hp (mind you, I'll just take that number as is even though it was turning my alt and water pump, going through my entire exhaust), all say "120-121" mph using different calcs on the net.
I'd be curious to know if it spits out 116 using the dyno data I got from from 5200 to 6500 rpm dyno runs, even though it makes no sense those numbers should count..
But check out the vid everyone! I don't pay 1.99 a month for this transfer so nobody uses it! Also, I will have the vid of my little skate up tomorrow. Its too late to fiddle with the software and the site's html now.
I just re-read your post, going through the lights on my street tires I was at like 6700rpm... My max RPM this time was "compromised" on my recall tach because my shift light went on a few times during the burnout.. I went through this pretty good with my ever-so-patient pops and (have an engineer, use an engineer!) and we did some work and put the converter at 7-9% slip.

Matt,

Based on the MPH of that run and given the 60', you should have an 11.4x in the bag if you can hook it.

Also, don't be surprised if your MPH comes up when you hook it. I would not be surprised to see an 11.2x@118 with some tuning/tweaking.

Just for comparison sake. My old 383 SBC combo started out as an all low end TQ combo. Before I did a bunch of suspension work, if I went to a TNT night which had a VERY poor track conditions my 60' would be up in the high 1.7's or low 1.8's with MPH around 112 MPH. The very next day I would go to the same track to run brackets. Being during the middle of the day the DA was much worse, but the track was MUCH better. I routinely saw 60' times drop to low 1.6's which dropped ET by .4. I also usually saw an increase of 2-3 MPH.

No changes to the car. Just a sticky track.

BTW, after a pile of suspension work my 60' times only dropped .03, best vs. best. The change however is that it would be within .01 everytime and even on the poorest tracks with NO burnout would be no worse than 1.68 or so.

Keep plugging away. There's definitely more in it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I knew it was coming you blithering ditherer, or dithering blitherer..... graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/beers.gif

Now with a baseline you can tweak ONE THING AT A TIME and see how it responds.

CONGRATS! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
