Picked up a 427 short block today for my chevelle. SRP pistons, stock rods, stock steel crank, regular deck mark 4 block. All fresh (pistons/rings new).
I'm probably going to replace the rods with something else.

Recommendations? Stock 6.135 length, 10.1 comp. motor...

Why??
If it's "all fresh" I've gotta assume the assembly is balanced. Stock GM rods are good stuff for a mild performance build.
And replacing the rods would probably require another balance job.

But, if you insist...I've had great service from the Manley I beam rods but I know others running Scat and Eagle H beams with equal success.

the rods have a couple strikes against them..1)stock bolts and 2)don't look like they've ever been resized. Plus, I'd like bushed rods instead of riding steel on steel or pressed.

Assembly was NOT balanced yet (unassembled) because the guy I bought it from was thinking along the same lines as me. (Should have been more specific in my original post...sorry).

Leaning toward Scat 7/16 cap screw I beam.

I would have to ask why too??
While some are better than others, the stock GM BB rod is a pretty stout piece ;)

That makes things a bit different, helps when you give all the info :D
The Scat Pro Comp I beam is a killer piece for the money & it is reasonably close to the GM rod in weight
Just for info, the H beam BB rods are actually lighter than the I Beams
