I have a 69 SS 396 Chevelle that I am restoring. I have bought a set of Eiback lowering springs that should lower the car 1.5". I would like to run some Hooker Super Comp Headers that have a 3.5 collector. Will this be to big considering the 1.5" drop and will I be constantly scraping my headers. If so, please advise of another option. Thanks

I'm running 2" Hooker Super Comps on my 69, at it's stock ride height and I REALLY have to watch out because of clearance problems. I have heard that the Headman series tuck up a bit tighter, but I think their tubes are 1 7/8.
Do a search on this, it has been talked about quite a bit and I think you will find a ton of info,

You don't want/need those big headers for a 396..Dynomax makes a pair of nice Jet Hot coated 1 3/4" primary tube/3" collector headers that fit a BBC Chevelle like a glove..great ground clearance too.

I don't know if I would run Super Comps with the car lowered. When I picked up my car it had old, worn out springs & every time I would get on it it would flatten the headers between 1st & 2ond gears  .. After the new springs, they have never hit again..... those headers will be super tight to get in to the driver side of your '69,you will definatly have to pull the distributer & jack the engine as high as you can get it...

yeah I have those same headers in my 70. I have not driven it yet but it looks like I have about 3 inches before they hit the ground already. Imo my stock height ride is going to scrap let alone a lowered ride. just my opinion. Those are also a b#@%H to get in too. Had to cut holes in fenderwells to get one primary around the frame and there is not room they touch everything.

I got a new set of Headmans with my '69 SS396 and they lay against the RH brake pipe that goes over the lwr motor rail to the caliper and hit the engine crossmember and other things on the LH side. I just put the RH in my trunk to try and get it bent in somewhere. Headman told me to loosen the motor mounts and pry the engine over to the left (didn't work). Are you using stock height motor mounts? Good luck. Chuck S.
