View Full Version : Big Little radiator?

I was just about to install my new 4 core radiator in my 68. I bought new rubber bushings for it and all. But when I went to install them, they fit nicely on the radiator support and in the radiator cover (not sure what its called) but only on the pass side. the drivers side takes a shorter bushing that would fit my original 3 core. My Cover is a four bolt one so I assumed it would work. Has anyone ever seen this? If so is there a 4 core radiator that will fit it? I want it to look factory. Or do I have to cut them to fit the 4 core??
Thx Bill

Not sure what you exact problem is but there is an extension welded onto the driver's side of the core support for the 4 row radiator rubber mount on some years.
Is that what you mean?

Not sure if I'm following the question but...
There are three different width rubber radiator supports...sizes for two, three, and four row core rads.
Generally, 3 and 4 row core rubbers are available from the Parts Vendors.

On some covers and core supports there is a metal tab preventing the large rubber isolator from fitting. If this is the case bend it flat or remove it.

<edit> Must have been typing while Dean was. I see now what the problem might be.

OK Dean has the right idea. It seems as though my support will except up to a foutr core radiator on the pass side but only a three core on the drivers side. If there is a welded on piece, I assume, That I could get this piece and weld it on but I think I would need a different top piece that will accept a four core on both sides. I have been thinking of just notching them and let the extra length of the bushings hang out. Its only like 3/8 inch. What do you guys think?

I've gotten away with worse than that. you do't want the radiator sliding off the shelf though. messy with all the slimey green stuff all over.

I believe that Hinshaw's carries the correct top plate for the four row radiator.:)

Bill,

You can get a rough size idea off the photo that Dean posted. Measure the overhang and make a metal tab that looks similar to the photo for the support and then get a 4 core top plate from a used parts dealer.

I wouldn't like to see the radiator slide out into the fan.
