MrBill66Malibu Dec 14th, 07, 6:30 AM Rat Rod it all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
350_Malibu Dec 14th, 07, 11:39 AM Thats a weird chevelle. Never seen one with a cowl tag like that. Antwerpen?? Weird, you learn something new everyday!
Its not a bad car, but I wouldn't throw a whole lot of $$ at it to restore it. If you wanted to keep the car because you like it, I would just fix it up little at a time and drive it. I'd start with the saftey items like brakes, steering then work on motor and then interior/body. But I wouldn't go all out because what ever you put into it monetary wise you can expect to never recover.
Nice car though Youri!
350_Malibu Dec 14th, 07, 11:41 AM I voted on the road with it NOW! But get some work done to it to make sure it's safe!
69chevelle355 Dec 14th, 07, 11:48 AM I accidentally voted scrap it at first, but then I went back and said rat-treatment.
Slam it, flat black and wide tires at all 4 corners gets my vote!!!!
350_Malibu Dec 14th, 07, 11:56 AM By the way the "On the road with it NOW!" link is broken. I had to copy the url to a new browser window.
dsolomon Dec 14th, 07, 12:11 PM Bring it back to original! The cowl tag alone makes it something very special.
I know from experience, that you CAN bring anything back.

I want to, believe me, i've got all the expierience i need up here, but please don't forget i'll have to import almost everything, this won't go without a cost :(, as i became 27 a few days back, just bought a new apartment with furniture, my timing sucks enormously at the moment (which always does when trying to make a dream come true:D)
Estimates on full restauration doesn't go below $10.000 considering rare parts,(interior code 770 full replacement) or like the rear bumper which doesn't have reverse driving lights(not needed if it's an original classic just like seat belts), importing about 800/1000 Lbs. on parts from the US to Europe, and learning from mistakes.
On the other hand i will most presumably own the coolest car of the Netherlands :), and it will not be used for daily driver, as i'll be living less then 5 miles from my work next month.
The banger on the pic is my dream, and i'm desperate to make it come true, but i really need to consider my options.

Thx, it's fixed now :)
Dave Hopkins Dec 14th, 07, 1:37 PM To restore a six cylinder 4 door car the cost would far exceed the value. Rat rod is the only practicle use

In whatever case, the I-6 WILL go out eventually. best thing i can do is keep the matched I-6 in storage
00WS6TA Dec 14th, 07, 8:58 PM Rat Rod it all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
X2
highlandlake Dec 14th, 07, 9:35 PM Tell everyone here how much a gallon of gas costs OVER THERE before anyone else votes for the Rat. Isn't it like $8 a gallon?
Bring it back to original. Keep the six cylinder!!!
As for finding parts to make it original- we can help you.
Speaking of rats - most of the members here are PACKRATS and would do themselves a favor to send their extra parts to Holland to make your car project a reality. We can help you have the coolest driver car in the Netherlands.
What color was it originally?

Given fact =1 Litre Density 95 = Euro 1.45
Given fact2=1 Gallon = 4.54 Litres
1.45x4.54= 6.99 Euro
6.99 Euro x 1.46= $10.20 a gallon
The Color code on the Antwerp Cowl appears to say 200, don't know what that is, the dent seems to show the "butternut Yellow" code, which i think it's a strange combination with the dark blue interior. i'm going to give me some extra details next week, as i'm learning every day quite fast now.

Who said anything about removing the 6 ?????? Let me explain what I mean about a Rat Rod. Remove items that are beyond repair, such as a ripped headliner, badly damaged door panels etc. Cover door panels with aluminum or simple luan and cloth. Remove damaged chrome trim or repair as much as possible and paint silver or any color desired, same goes for bumpers. Straighten out body as much as possible without spending a ton of money and prime and clear coat. Basically work with what you have to preserve the integrity of the car. Spend more time in cleaning and painting with a spray can. This way the car is usable, looks cool and if he wants as money allows he can restore it to what ever level he wants.
Rat Rodding to me means making it look cool and remain simple and of course being safe!!!

There seems to be quite a lot definitions fron "ratting"
In Holland it means a pile of rust which eats asphalt for breakfast :), so thats gotta mean rust and V-8's :)

Speedy,
Thats why I posted my definition, I hope yours turns out the way you want!!! :)
Tom's 68 Dec 15th, 07, 8:08 AM I would be thinking that the car was originally black, if it was butternut yellow, you would probably see that in areas that don't normally get repainted when the paint job is a quicky. like around the rubber in the trunk and the inner sides of the fenders in the engine bay. that yellow that you see on the dented area could be primer.
melrose Dec 15th, 07, 8:09 AM I voted get it on the road an ddrive it the way it is. Your goals for the car may change after driving it for a month or two. You will find yourself busy enough repairing minor things you'd wonder how you would have had time restoring it.
You can clean it up a little; remove the headliner, throw som blankets over the seats, minor overhaul the engine, and have yourself a fun daily driver. Maybe you'll even locate a bigger motor (if that's what interests you) for a winter project.
Personally IMHO, Chevelles with flat black paint and mexican blankets are not rat rods, the car is too new. Along with my- "people that litter" pet peeve- calling 60's and later cars rat rods lands right at the top of the list. It's a musclecar even if it has an L6!
I forget where you're located but the flat black fad is on it's way out over here- whether people like to admit it or not. If you like the way flat black looks on your car though by all means do it. What it boils down to is do what makes you happy- It's your car!
