Anyone have any suggestions on locating a X-style exhuast system for a 65SS. PHR did a nice piece on a complete Magnaflow system that bolted right up a 64. I was thinking this was going to be perfect. I called Magnaflow and I guess it is not available yet? I have a 383 stroker that puts out 450hp, so I am trying to get ideas for headers and exhaust. I am trying to make it as quiet as possible. I know that sounds strange, but I plan on driving this almost every day. Has anyone used a Dynomax system?

How do you measure the power of your engine without an exhaust system?

Check out Pypes exhaust.

I've got their 2.5" X system in the Firebird with Dynomax mufflers, sounds good. I did have to do some surgery to the system, I'm thinking that it was a 2nd gen system they sent my friend (who owned the car at the time). It fits now, though. I did look closely at a 2nd gen F-body set, and the tailpipes were exactly what I had before I cut them down. They seem to pride themselves on fit, so it's hard to say in my case.

I've heard nothing but good about the Pypes X pipe systems as well.

I used a 3" torque tech/custom x pipe/ 20" case 3" offset/offset dynomax hemi super turbo's exhaust system.
The x-pipe added a good amount of power, dyno & track verified. It also made the car *so* much quieter. Granted, I have enourmous mufflers-- but as a true dual system you could hear them from around a mile away, maybe more, at WOT--
I've heard with the "x" it sounds like a new viper from 900 ft.. basically, the car looks like its haulin, umm, donkey, mule, heh, from 900ft but you can't hear a darn thing.
The x pipe will quiet it down a ton. Even with a 500hp BBC. Now, one word of caution-- I tested the mufflers (the 20" long 3" offset/offset muffler dynomax's) back to back, with no changes, on a dyno with 14" long by maybe 4" thick total with 3" offset/offset inlet/outlet mufflers and the exhaust sounded so loud it was like I was sticking a stethoscope on the muffler. I'm not bad mouthing spin tech, but its sure not for me. I think its great to cruise in your car with the windows down and not want to install the smallest, quietest exhaust possible no matter what the cost.
Thats my .02.
I'm partial to dynomax though. But, the x-pipe made *such a world of difference* it was amazing, so amazing, I'd hate to hear the spin techs sans x-pipe.
