What would increasing compression do for me. I have srp 9.7's now, run a 282s cam in a 388 stroker 6" rods. Fastest time was 7.84-1/8th with a mild stall (12" 2200). Would I gain in power or just hear my cam more. I was running AFR 195's and sold them, I haven't replaced them yet and have thought about putting some 11.5-1's in it. Is only a weekend car when together. Thanks for any help.

If you put 11.5:1 pistons in it it will be ping-city with your mild cam. I ran 10.3:1 compression with that cam and it worked fine on pump premium, but you start getting much over 10.5 and you're going to have problems IMO. I currently run 11.3:1 flat tops in my 388 and it is kind of close to the edge on 93 octane with the much bigger 294s cam.

It would be easier to go with a cam that has roughly the same advertised duration but more agressive lobes than the 282s. The Magnum solids are great street cams (they're quiet, are easy on valve train parts, hold lash settings well, etc) but if you want every last bit of HP you can probably pick up a few more HP with more agressive lobes. IMO with your compression ratio you want to keep the advertised duration close to where it is at now, but you might make more HP with a little more duration @ .050 and .200".

Harold would be a good place to start IMO.

PS. I think 1 full point of compression would be worth about 15 HP, but you would need more cam to go with it. The two changes combined could be worth some serious HP though.

Is the cam the magnum or the XS series? I used the xs282s10 in a 385 with 11-1 c/r with iron protoplines without any signs of detonation with 91 octane California pee water
