: Another LS6! I'm comimg over to the dark side!
skyman51 Dec 12th, 07, 6:44 PM I have always been a Corvette guy but I am really getting into the Chevelles now. I just found a Fathom Blue LS6 #1 restored car. All original panels and galss. Only carpets and seat cover replaced.. Original drivetrain. Cowl Induction, bench seat,M22,3.31 rear. Car is a Kansas City Car with Build sheet,POP,and all titles(four owners) The owner want to trade me even up for my 65 396/425 Corvette Coupe. When the market is good I believe the corvette is worth more but today I think and even trade is fair. Any opinions?:D
Trade him. If you don't like the Chevelle after all, there are more people interested in Chevelles than Corvettes, so it will be easier to sell.
velle69florida Dec 12th, 07, 8:26 PM any pics of the cars?? for comparison
69396ss Dec 12th, 07, 8:29 PM Man, tough one.
Story on the 396/425HP Vette? (one of my personal favorites)
oldtimebaseballfan Dec 12th, 07, 8:42 PM Hopefully you are familiar enough with the LS6 Chevelle and documentation to know if it is all legit. What value does the seller put on his chevelle? Have you seen the docs?
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 10:57 AM Tim. I have seen the car and the documentation. It is a real car. I recently bought another LS6 about two months ago and really did my homework first. It was the Cranberry REd car that Best fo
Show Automotive had for sale. That car is spectacular. It has two build sheets,POP,bill of sale, original pre delivery checklist and origianl owners ,manual. That car can be seen on their website. Go to www.bestofshowautomotive.com (http://www.bestofshowautomotive.com). Go to sales and cars sold.:D
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 11:03 AM Did you already trade?
depley Dec 13th, 07, 11:03 AM Trade him. If you don't like the Chevelle after all, there are more people interested in Chevelles than Corvettes, so it will be easier to sell.
Are you sure about that? I was going through Effingham Illinois last fall the same weekend the corvette owners were getting together. 14,000 corvettes showed up. As we drove on our continued way to Wisconsin we saw corvette after corvette coming the other direction headed south in a continuous wave all the way into Wisconsin.
dreis454 Dec 13th, 07, 11:03 AM I'd do it, make the trade
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 11:10 AM I have not made any deal yet. We are talking. I have had Corvettes for many years and know them very well. This 65 is a great car. I just want to play with something else for a change before I am too old to. My wife is the primary driver now because I have a vision problem that makes driving not agood idea. Thankfully she enjoys it and indulges me, although she is a Corvette Lady at heart.:hurray:
JHP69ss Dec 13th, 07, 11:11 AM A #1 LS6 for a 65 vette...sounds like a very good trade on your end. Don't know much about the 65s, but know the 67 427 vettes are a premium...as are the 70 LS6 you're about to trade for!
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 11:14 AM John
The 65 396 was the first Corvette with a big block. It was Chevy's answer to the 427 Cobra and put GM back on top on the track. There were only 2157 65 396 cars built of whioh a third were coupes. This car has the original drivetrain and documentation back to the selling dealer and original owner.
I have had this car listed in Corvette Cirles for sale for over a year and very few realistic offers, but I have had the Red LS6 for two months and have had three real unsolcited offers to buy for well in excess what I paid for it.

So you bought the red LS6 for $125,000? Left the wife be happy and drive the Vette. What do need another LS6 for anyway if are unable to drive them?
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 11:30 AM One of 2157 65 L78 Corvettes would easily be my second choice (if not first choice) over an LS6 Chevelle.
The first Big Block Corvette.
I'm afraid to ask what color it is.
But a Big Block 65 Coupe, side SidePipes, Goldlines and Knock-off's.
Tasty Indeed, and a rare score if original.
My fear, is that the LS6 frenzy may flatten out, whereas that 65 Coupe?
Tough call indeed..... But to say you have one of each?
Priceless.
1badss396 Dec 13th, 07, 11:48 AM Can you buy me the LS6 and I will take good car of it for you:yes: I will even take you for some rides in it:D

Thanks for the clarification...wow, that's some dilemma. Since you just bought another LS6, I'd have to agree with 69396ss...have one of each. The 65 sounds rare and with much pedigree...and it gives you some variety.
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 12:14 PM It's definately respectable if original.
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 12:59 PM :thumbsup:So you bought the red LS6 for $125,000? Left the wife be happy and drive the Vette. What do need another LS6 for anyway if are unable to drive them?
I have a vision problem,I'm not dead! I still enjoy cruisees and shows and also owning something special, and if it is a good investment in the process that's great.
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 2:01 PM Your answer should have been:
Why? Because I can! :D
mmurphy77 Dec 13th, 07, 3:44 PM I agree with John I think the Vette value will stay more stable than the LS6. 396/425 'Vette is only 2nd to the '67 427 cars in value as far as the mid-year cars go. If you've got a perfect LS6 car, keep the 'Vette and has the best of each model instead of two of one.
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 4:46 PM Mike and the entire peanut gallery(for those of you that are not old enough, the peanut gallery was all the kids in the audience of the Howdy Doody Show) I have come to my senses and I believe you arer right. My LS6 is perfect and I dont need another. The 65 corvette is a rare car and I would be hard pressed to find another like it. By the way I do have a 67 427 convertible.:beers:
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 4:50 PM I would make the perfect Son you never had Rob! :D
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 5:08 PM Actually the 65 rarely gets driven. My wife does not like it becuse it is a coupe and it has 3.70 gears with a 425hp solid lifter motor and no power steering or brakes. The 67 convertible is a 390hp car with PS,PB, wide ratio M20 box with 3.08 gears. It also has orginal factory side exhaust. It is a pleasure to drive and she loves it. She appreciates the perfection of the LS6 and all the docs but is not impressed with it at all. She drove it and said so whats the big deal.
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Dec 13th, 07, 5:18 PM Buy her a 66 Rob.. she will be Impressed ;)

Your killing me Rob.
Just don't tell me you have a split window as well, I couldn't take it.
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 5:42 PM No 63, but Gran Sport #5, the Penski one I think, :D
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 6:08 PM Guys I'll go you one better then a 66, I had a new 67 L78! They were available if you asked the right questions and went to the right dealer. Boy would I love to have that back today.
I don't have a 63 split window,never wanted one,but I did sell a Top Flight 61 Fuelie about a uear ago.
mmurphy77 Dec 13th, 07, 7:24 PM Hey Rob, I think you owe it to all us envious folk and provide some pics of these GREAT cars! Pleeease!
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 7:51 PM Hey guys here is were I am an idiot. I have never understood how to post pictures. The LS6 can be seen at www.bestofshowautomotive.com (http://www.bestofshowautomotive.com) at the cars sold area under sales. I do have some shots of the 65 and 67 corvettes on the computer but don't know how to post them.
Rob
1badss396 Dec 13th, 07, 10:03 PM Rob read this thread how to post pictures (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160474&highlight=Official+Post+Pictures), then you can send me one of those extra LS6 cars next week:D
skyman51 Dec 13th, 07, 10:18 PM I will work on getting the pics posted. I also started the thread on the $175,000 LS6 at Nickey Chicago. I hate to be prejudice but the LS6 I bought makes that car look like a "Piker". If that car is worth $175,000,and I certainly hope it is, then the one I just bought........ I have a warm and fuzzy feeling:D
69396ss Dec 13th, 07, 10:21 PM Carefull, you'll get yelled at :D

E-mail me the Vette's and I'll post them for you.
johnlord@zoomtown.com
Chris R Dec 13th, 07, 10:42 PM I agree with the others. If you already have an LS6. I would keep the Vette and have the best of both worlds.
1badss396 Dec 13th, 07, 11:25 PM E-mail me the Vette's and I'll post them for you.
johnlord@zoomtown.comJohn, the heck with email pictures you should just have him ship the cars to your house:D:D:yes::thumbsup:
66 L78 ragtop Dec 13th, 07, 11:39 PM Buy her a 66 Rob.. she will be Impressed ;)
I second that motion
oldtimebaseballfan Dec 14th, 07, 10:12 AM Rob, you mentioned you haven't received any decent offers on your 65. What price range were you thinking?
What color combination is your 67?
bulletpruf Dec 14th, 07, 12:31 PM I'm a '66 Vette fan, but I think I'd keep the '65, or at least trade it for a '66 L72 convertible... I had a '66 convt with a 300 hp 327 and then a '66 L72 coupe, built engine, 4 sp, 4.11s, side exhaust, knockoffs, etc. Wanted a BB convt 66 but those were a bit out of reach at the time (1995).

skyman51 Dec 14th, 07, 2:49 PM Rob, you mentioned you haven't received any decent offers on your 65. What price range were you thinking?

I won't sell the 65 coupe for less then 100K
Nassau Blue/Bright Blue Interiot
The 67 convertible is Goodwood Green/green interior with a whiie stinger and a white top.
IDoc Dec 14th, 07, 3:31 PM Good God Rob. You've been a busy boy since we last spoke! By the way I recind my statement on the red Chevelle, I'll take the 67 instead!
You should still have my email, I can host the pictures for you. Just send them to me or PM me with your number and I'll walk you thru it.
PS did you guys get socked with this last storm down there? We got a foot last night.
skyman51 Dec 14th, 07, 6:04 PM Thanks Doc, I will email you and catch up. We got mostly rain with some freeInf rain. The next storm Saturday night into Sunday is supposed to get New England and we should get a little snow and mostly rain.
Rob
dashboard Dec 14th, 07, 7:45 PM Rob,
Just reviewed your posts all 140 plus, are you a car dealer?
skyman51 Dec 15th, 07, 9:00 AM I will work on getting the pics posted. I also started the thread on the $175,000 LS6 at Nickey Chicago. I have to add to the above post. That car is a true survivor. I now know what collection that car came from and it is the real deal, a 16,000 mile car. I will still add though not my favorite in color or option but......

I still want to know what a "piker" is.
66SSFan Dec 15th, 07, 7:00 PM WOW, very nice collection. Great choice in keeping the '65, I personaly like the coupes better than the roadsters anyway.
skyman51 Dec 15th, 07, 7:10 PM Thanks MIke. I have been into Corvettes for so long now that right now I can't get enough of the Chevelle. Everyday I learn more about it and it really is a special car. I just had the carb rebuilt because both bowls were leaking badly. The carb is the original dated Sept. 69.. The fuel leak had stained the manifold so I had it taken off and cleaned.!
IDoc Dec 15th, 07, 8:09 PM I don't know Rob, that green one just doesn't seem to fit, being the odd-ball convertable. You'd better let me take it off your hands.
smittyocat Dec 16th, 07, 2:30 PM Rob I grew up in PA what part of the state are you from?
jimhudgins4 Dec 16th, 07, 3:02 PM Rob...good to see your other fine cars too. Very nice group but I must say the Red LS6 is my favorite, if you know what I mean.
skyman51 Dec 16th, 07, 3:02 PM Southeastern Joe,suburban Philadelphia.
Rob
smittyocat Dec 16th, 07, 9:47 PM Yeah me too. I was born in Bristol and grew up in Langhorne. Used to go to Philly all the time Front street, Enterprise Ave, etc.

Careful what you wish for. If you are seriously interested in that car send me an email. I don't need or even care to sell it but there is always a bottom line.:D
IDoc Dec 17th, 07, 2:16 PM Rob, I don't think i could afford that car, definately not the divorce that would insue after I brought it home! Besides it's hard to stuff two kids into the back of a Corvette.
skyman51 Dec 17th, 07, 6:35 PM Seriously guys, since I am not going to buy this car if anyone is interested let me know and I can put you intouch with the owner. This car is a real documented LS6 with bench seat and M22 trans. Completely restored. It can be bought for 95K.
