I know this is a long shot, but anyone that happens to be from the Pittsburgh area, do you know of a good reliable machine shop I can take my block/head/crank to in order to have cleaned an checked?

I just tried calling B&R Speed Supply on Allegheny River Blvd and their phone has been disconnected (Got the number from their web site (http://www.bandrspeedsupply.com/contactus.shtml))

EDIT: I found a different number from Google (412-247-0970), and they are still in business. Looks like it's gonna cost around $500, just do get it cleaned, checked and a valve job (Still not sure about these heads though  #353049)

Actually, I have one I'd highly recommend, but it's just outside Sharon, about an hour north of the city. In a little place called Transfer. The name of the shop is Transfer Performance Machine. (724)962-2520.

It's owned by a guy named Ed Steffy. He has a Pro Mod team that races east of the Mississippi. They build some monster race engines as well as all kinds of local racer's motors and other engine work. The guy who runs the place is Ted. Really great people to deal with and VERY skilled!

Another place I've heard good things about is Rebco in Millvale. I don't have their number. The shop is attached to an auto parts store. I've never used them for anything like that personally, though.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks Andy,

I know just where Rebco is. Only about 10 miles from me. I didn't know thay did this kind of stuff there. Nice to know.

I'll give the guy in Sharon a call also. I don't mind the drive

Transfer did all my engine work on my 2 racecars and I never had a issue. They are great to deal with.

Brougher's is still open out by Century III mall area. Also in the Rt 51/88 intersection is Race Car Services($$$).
I had a guy in Wexford build my 496, Butch D'Antonio. He builds a number of circle track motors, runs his own car on a limited basis. Nice guy, knowledgeable, good equipment in the shop. Not much to look at (the shop) but clean and did well by me. "Elmers Engines" - 724-935-4830.
The 049 heads are good open chamber oval port castings.

Check out Ashcraft Speed & Marine (724) 285-4200 near Butler. All they do is race engine and classic car engine builds. Complete rebuilds or just machining. They also have the capability to turn cranks which you cant find in our area much. Worth a visit just to see his shop!

Thanks for all of the good tips. I'm hoping to drop my disassembled engine off to one of these places this upcoming week. Im just hoping that whereever I do go, that they don't realize I'm pretty much a novice, and take advantage of this.

I was planning on doing the rebuild myself, but if I had someone rebuild it, about what would it cost? Labor wise and any machining needed

Come to think of it, I guess that's a hard question to answer. To many variables can be thrown into the mix. Should I be able to get everything I would possible need done for under $2,000?
