What is the easiest and best way to transmit to a fm frequency so cars driving by a persons house can tune to a certain frequency to hear the music you are broadcasting?
Thanks,
Jon

Ha Ha! Just did this!

There are cheap Belkin transmitters you buy from Wally world for using your I-Pod or whatever to braodcast to your in-car stereo system. For the use you want, you'd have to modify it by adding a larger antenna. You can find info on this site: http://planetchristmas.mywowbb.com/forum6/ -The Team Chevelle of Exterior Illumination!

There are also ready to go transmitters for about $100 on E-Bay. I split the difference and bought one of these from the $40Man http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200183028356&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_IT&refitem=200172342878&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget - Ask for the antenna and power cord.

It works well and takes a little set up to get going.

I've got a 22 channel digital LOR system I'm having fun with now. I can broadcast about 400 yards with the antenna 44" long and mounted about 8' high.

This isnt considered to be pirate radio or something like that?

I thought this was illegal.

Rule #1 - All broadcasters WITH licenses have everything on their side.
If you transmit on any AM/FM frequency you may not impede on anyone's ability to recieve a licensed station, or if your neighbor complains, you're illegal.

If your broadcast doesn't interfere with any stations, you're OK. It's legal. We're only talking a 1/3 of a watt and a few hundred yards.

Thanks. Was curious how this worked. Maybe i'll hook mine up and broadcast the "Bow chicka wow wow" porn tunes. People may complain but i'll just tell them its a Starsky and Hutch TV soundtrack. ;)

Thanks for the info, I thought it was just if you did it at all and no middleground.

In 1970 my Oldest sisters husband was an MP in the Army. The man was a rear piece of work. He was a wife beater. She was seeing a shrink already and he got with a buddy from communications to rig up a transmitter to broadcast on a local FM radio frequency. The one my sister had on all night while he was on duty. He took a bad experience she had when a great grandpa had died and she was in the room when they closed the casket. She was only 4 and didn't understand. He was saying through the radio he was grandpa Kye and he was suffocating and Ruth Ann needed to open the box. He kept it up until they got caught. Seems the base Commanders Wife listened to the same station late at night and knew the only Ruth Ann on base was my sister. (the signal didn't get off base) Cost my ex-brother-in-law his carreer (had 18 years) and got sis a real easy divorce.

Sorry it didn't have to do with your FM broadcasting but it reminded me of this story. They used to make a toy, I think called Mr Microphone that let you broadcast through an FM radio. :)
