My car is stored outside and it's murder trying to keep the Weld aluminum wheels looking decent. I was thinking about getting a set of rims to throw on for the winter and putting the Welds in the shed. He says the tires are older & have some cracks but still hold air and have 1/2 the tread. What do you think?

They look like they are from a later 80's camaro, they not from a chevelle originally. They will fit your car and they are cheap.

Man please don't put those ugly wheels on a Chevelle.

They're priced 80.00 too high.

Thanks, Dean! I battled with that for about half a minute also! My car is blue with white stripes and I was concerned about the thing looking like an American flag! (not that that's a bad thing!)

if you just putting them on to store the car shouldnt be a problem, just spray them black. But I wouldnt drive the car, last thing you need is to have the tread seperate and take out a fender. jim

I thought of that too, Jim. You hit the nail on the head. I just bought tires this past year and don't feel like buying more. And I'd never forgive myself if something like you suggested were to happen as I was tooling around the block over the winter. I'm gonna hold off and deal with it. Perhaps I'll put my $100 towards Zoop seal, polish up my Welds, and hope that it protects them better that way.

Anbody have any feelings about Zoop seal?

How about polish the Welds (professionally if need be), and have them Powdercoated clear? You'll never have to polish the wheels again ;)

They're from a 1988 Camaro. They rank right up there with the ever famous factory star wheels found on 1980's S-10's and El Caminos....almost can't give away. You could probably get those next to nothing if you looked long enough.

Not a bad idea, Alan. I have a powder coating line at work and I have done clear on a couple of items. I never considered it for the wheels, but it may be something to look at. I'll need to check with the powder mfr. to make sure it's durable enough to withstand the brake dust and cleaning agents.

Hey nieghbor! I'm in Ringwood.

Why don't you just put a coating of CRC power lube or some other anti corrosive on them over the winter. If you dont drive it, that should do a decent job of keeping the moisture off the aluminum.

Yes, I know! I had a picture of your car as my computer's wallpaper for a while! Cloisonne Blue, right?

I work in Riverdale. Drop me a line if you ever need anything fabricated and/or powder coated. I'm Engineering Manager of a precision metal fabricator. ;)

I appreciate your suggestion. I'll look into that!
