: What's with eBay ads for NOS stuff, but "Box not included"?
Don_Lightfoot Dec 11th, 07, 6:49 PM Like this 69 Speedo (http://cgi.ebay.com:80/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160176937652&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:MOTORS:1123)
Seems to be quite a bit of these same ads popping up lately. Certainly makes you wonder how many "reconditioned" parts will show up in the future advertising as NOS and using the same box
TonyZ Dec 11th, 07, 7:59 PM I think a lot of that is repro stuff Don. If not it's reconditioned. I've seen it for years but you're right - there's a lot of it now. Funny thing about that speedo is the box is right behind it. He must have to save it for the next one.
Jim Mac Dec 11th, 07, 9:19 PM I joked before about putting the boxes my cowl induction and SS emblems came out of on ebay. I bought those back in the late 70s I think a couple of the boxes are still laying in the shed somewhere. jim

Might be because the original box they had got destroyed or something. I have seen empty boxes sell on ebay.
Alwhite00 Dec 11th, 07, 9:55 PM Buy a re-pop for 10% of the cost of NOS, sell it on ebay, Don't include the box & repeat.
LK
Neal Wright Dec 11th, 07, 9:58 PM Unfortunately, I think it's the same as you're thinking ... somebody selling repro stuff as old stock. I can think of no other reason for someone to want to sell a part, but must keep the box. Regardless of what excuse somebody could give me, I wouldn't do business with any individual like that!
Neal
dyno jonn Dec 11th, 07, 11:00 PM I'll agree that some of this stuff is reproduction with the box as a selling prop, but some things come from GM in bulk packs of 5 or 10, mostly on smaller parts. I buy smaller items bulk and sell them one or two at a time.

camarofreak Dec 12th, 07, 2:08 AM tons of ebay scam artists are selling genuine gm resto parts as nos stuff even though they are a few weeks old or just purchased from gm!!
I just bought a box of 4 gm motor mount bolts with nuts for a 71 chevelle from my local gm dealer for 12 bucks then saw 2 bolts no nuts in the same box i got listed as nos on ebay for 40 bucks!!????
I will email the seller and just ask him why no box.
Louey Dec 12th, 07, 7:40 AM Color me stoopid, but what does NOS stand for in this instance?
I'm not familiar with the acronym.
Dean Dec 12th, 07, 8:12 AM Before eBay NOS meant New Old Stock
Parts that were manufactured back near the time of what ever they fit a never sold.
Woj Dec 12th, 07, 11:40 AM The meaning of NOS has truely gotten watered down. Lots of guys selling repop parts as NOS. I've even emailed a few of them asking to stop, they don't. This may be why real NOS parts with boxes bid very high. The flip side is that ebay is about the only place to get NOS anything anymore. Swap meets are all but dead except for junk, painting supplies and beenie babies.
Woj.
138car Dec 12th, 07, 12:25 PM My favorite is when the box pictured has the part number of a 76 vega, next to a made in china repop part complete with barcode.
TDW Dec 12th, 07, 12:37 PM Here is his answer.
hi, the reason i did not want to sell the box is because i had more than one nos spedo to sell . however this is the last one so i can give you the box with it if you like, thanks john
BrentsChevelle Dec 12th, 07, 12:44 PM Hmm, now he's willing to include the box since someone called him on it.
Chris R Dec 13th, 07, 11:14 PM At least the buy it now price is reasonable. Might be a little expensive but not bad IMO. People have been doing this on Ebay for years. I always found it offensive personally. Kind of reminds me of a bait and switch sort of thing IMO.
Bowtie-72 Dec 14th, 07, 12:21 PM Here's one where the guy says "of course the boxes come with", obviously people must ask a lot.

Freddy Mercado Dec 18th, 07, 7:11 PM I've been seeing that for years now. It is a scam. People are crooks. Sell repop stuff next to a box and call it NOS.
67 vette guy Dec 18th, 07, 7:23 PM You have to love the sellers who list an item as NOS but the box in the background has www.gmgoodwrench.com (http://www.gmgoodwrench.com) imprinted on it.... Don't they know Gore had NOT yet invented the internet? I have two NOS turnsignal switches for a 67 Chevelle and 67 Corvette. I like the little round cans they came in.
SS396 Convert Dec 18th, 07, 8:04 PM I bought a Headlight Trim Eyebrown for my 66 Chevelle off eBay and the Seller had a Picture of the Eyebrow in Original GM Packaging.....Said the Packaging was old and deteriorated and the Eyebrow had "Slight" shelfware......well.....He bought a New one, Installed it on "His" car and put his old Eyebrow in the G.M. Packaging .....Shelfware......Right..........Clips Rusted , Etc....Swore up and Down it was new and I didn't know what I was talking about......Ended up Eating it....The One that was on my car was in better shape...........
