Hi Gentlemen,

Here is a barn find, 1970 Hemi RT/SE Automatic, 46,593 mile car stored for last 20 years. I have not seen the car but have spoken to a gentleman who has seen the car and heard it run twenty years ago. The car from what I can decipher from our conversation is it, is either a 1 of 37 or a 1 of 15 depending on if it has a shaker hood he can't remember that. I spoken to the man who has seen the car, and he has spoken to the owner this weekend and he still has the car. Not sure if he will sell it but am going to see it myself The story goes on as, he bought the car used in 1975 for $3,500 and said that if ever needed money for his kids college he knew he could sell the car. Well now I've seen the car. It is in a garage that has all four wall cemeted in with only a doorway between other part of the garage. The motor and automatic transmission are not in the car but I have seen them. I have seen the broadcast sheet and it is the real deal (JS29R) code. Car is Blue and a non-shaker hood. The car does need alot of work to bring back to it's orginal luster (paint, stripping etc). Can't open hood or trunk to really get a good view of the car because of where it is. Any idea of the value of this car? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Go to Manhiem gold www.manheimgold.com (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/www.manheimgold.com) and put in the particulars. I tried to import the information but it did not copy properly. Check it out I think you will be Surprised at the Value they put on that car even in "fair" condition.

There's a Hemi Orange one for sale on Deals on Wheels for $160,000.00 in excellent condition. It's at a classic car lot. Looks to be a #3 car. Maybe you can use that car as a comparison.

I would say 50-75 K , depending on condition. That is a rare one. On another note, why don't I ever find these deals? If I found this car, it would be rusted in half out in a field down by the river, with a pack of mad coy dogs living in it just so I couldn't get near it. Oh ya, any pic's?

That car sounds just like one that used to be seen very close to my house. By any chance are you in Canada? It would be something if it was the same car. It was B5 blue, and R/T-SE, black roof, black leather interior, 15x7 Rally Wheels with F60-15 Polyglas tires, quad tips, factory driving lights, no spoilers, no stripes (or perhaps tail stripes, I can't remember). I can't remember if it had the shaker or not (you think I'd remember that!). The car was driven only if it hadn't rained for days and was absolutely perfect. This is back in 1973/74. The guy that owned the car lived in Burlington and was also into 1950's 'vettes. He owned a service station (was Supertest, then BP)

Big money in any rebuildable condition. If you can get it for less then 45k you've made a killing. The parts alone are with alot; complete HEMI in running condition is over 10k+ alone.

Hi Cameron,

Sorry but this car is not in Canada. This car is in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Hi Frank,

Here is the information from The Gold Book at Manheim Online

1970 DODGE CHALLENGER R/T Hemi Dsp/HP Eng Fair Good Exc Show
2D CONVERTIBLE (9 mfd) 440/390 V8 470,000 700,000 875,000 1,000,000

2D HARDTOP (418 mfd) 1970-71 426/425/ V8 155,000 275,000 550,000 700,000

Data updated August 2007 .

So I guess this car is at between $155,000 and $275,000.
Pretty good return on investment of $3,500 back in 1975. The problem is he knows what is worth. He told me he has already turned down $150,000 cash. Maybe we should tell his wife that.

You say that as a Joke :D

I kept trying to buy a car from a guy a while back and he kept backing down and wouldn't sell it at the last minute.

I finally called his house, and gave the final offer with $500 more tacked on it to his Wife to pass on to him. I told her I needed a response in 24 Hours or would be purchasing another car. He either needed to decide to sell it, or I was moving on.

He called back the next day and I could hear her yelling in the background when he put the phone down to talk to her about it trying to back out of the sale.

Kind of Dirty, but I wanted it. :D
