: Anyone want a New Chevelle?
70SSOBSESSION Dec 10th, 07, 9:56 PM Check this site out it has the new concept cars for GM including the Chevelle.
It looks bad to the bone.:hurray: Chris

1badss396 Dec 10th, 07, 10:07 PM Looks like the Chevelle has the most votes unless they decide to put in some 4 cylinder engine in it only because by the time they build it the world will run out of oil and no more gas so by then it will be an electric car powred by a single AAA battery, LOL

DaleM Dec 11th, 07, 1:59 AM Too bad there isn't more specific data like some other models. They're probably scheduled for production where the Chevelle isn't ... yet. :hurray:
Looks like the Malibu is going to get SS trim, let's hope the proposed Chevelle will too.
Schurkey Dec 11th, 07, 3:25 AM GM totally screwed the pooch with the wImpala.
GM totally screwed the pooch with the Malibu.
GM will probably screw the pooch (partially) with the Camaro--although the jury is still out in terms of how bad the screwing will be.
Do you really trust them to do the Chevelle right?
1. They've mis-positioned the vehicle size.
2. I get the idea it's wrong-wheel-drive
3. Won't have a Chevrolet engine. LSx is not a Chevy design.
4. You won't be able to turn the headlights off.
I'm done buying GM cars unless they're 10+ years old.

Tom's 68 Dec 11th, 07, 1:31 PM that car is U-G-L-Y
and isn't the zeta platform a front wheel drive
if they don't make it rear wheel drive, it shouldn't even sport the chevelle name!
man, GM is slipping so bad, it is just a matter of time until no one wants their junk.
DaleM Dec 11th, 07, 1:52 PM Actually, no. "Zeta is the original name for General Motors' full-size rear-wheel drive automobile platform." Engineered by Holden of Australia and referred to as the "Global RWD Architecture". See http://www.answers.com/topic/gm-zeta-platform for more corporate advantages about the platform. Essentially the same information is presented at numerous web sites.
I guess everyone would be happier if GM simply resurected the 1970 body tooling, added some modern conveniences and dropped 350 crate motors with 502 and 572 crate motors optional in them and sold them for $10,000. Me too, but that isn't going to happen in a world market. Remember too that these are concept cars. Sadly, Chevrolet's (and all of GM's current lineups) front end styling is here to stay for awhile but I'd sure like to see the comeback of the Chevelle nameplate.
iowacar Dec 11th, 07, 2:42 PM I also think the chevelle is UGLY! It looks like a new camero, which looks like a new cadillac.
tmcmillan5 Dec 11th, 07, 3:19 PM Is it me or do they all look like a different version of the same car?.... I like the look though.

Keith Tedford Dec 11th, 07, 3:39 PM For those who don't know GMI stands for General Motors Institute. I'm not sure how it works now, but in the old days the engineering students spent time in school and time in on of GM's plants for experience. The trouble with that is, you don't learn to think outside of the box. GM people are training you in what they want. What GM needs more than anything else, is an infusion of outside blood with fresh thinking. These cars all seem to have been taken out of the new Camaro mould and then stretched, bent, and tweaked to look like something else. Is it that difficult to built a new car that has a lot of the characteristic looks of an old Chevelle? You pick the year.
Freddy Mercado Dec 11th, 07, 4:15 PM Nice car, but just a concept. Most concepts never happen!
kjett Dec 11th, 07, 4:37 PM Whether you're a fan of the body style or not, the return of mid-full size sedans at GM is LONG overdue IMO
Take a look at the prototype Buick Wild Cat. Now that's what I consider adding in some retro style to a new car! The back glass kind of reminds me of a 60's vette from that view:

Hmmm. The latest Impala design is selling better than previous generation by a long shot.
The new Malibu is the cleanest, freshest, most appealing main stream family sedan from Chevrolet in recent memory, is the first GM vehicle that I would even consider looking at to replace my Honda Accord, and it stacks up extremely well against the Accord and Camry - the two cars that OWN that segment.
Right. They should have made both with RWD, doofy "American car" styling like the previous cars had (although the previous Impala wasn't too bad), lack luster performance for their class, and un-inspired interior styling. Because that approach worked so well with the previous models.
The new Malibu is a very compelling package and I applaude Chevrolet/GM for spending the necessary capital to bring it to market. It has received very good reviews.
Greg Dec 11th, 07, 4:55 PM Horrid.
There was a time when you would turn your head and instantly recognize a new Chevelle coming down the street...in fact, you can still recognize a Chevelle coming down the street, and it still turns heads.
Now, for the most part, so many new cars (including this new "Chevelle" concept) just seem like a soulless montage of the same design with no character.
I'd take a classic Chevelle any day of the week over any wannabe modern concept being proffered up by today's designers.
Regards,
-Greg
dogsridewith Dec 11th, 07, 4:57 PM Remake the '71, but with a short, tight, sloped front end that is designed with the same aesthetic as it's short, tight, sloped rear end. Use, on each side, a single large round headlight and smaller round foglight, placed in the big plastichrome bumper. ('71s have 4 round rear lights in the steelchrome bumper) Must be RWD. Consider that the youth market now considers it OK for a sports car to have 4 doors. Keep the coke bottle and everything else very much original. Pull the door glass out to make a smooth fit with the rear pillar, to improve aerodynamics.

No, no, no. It's a Buick "Wildcat Gran Sport" (Y body) not the plain Wildcat (Zeta body.) It's supposed to remind you of a '70s boattail Riviera.
melrose Dec 11th, 07, 5:45 PM I agree with most of you that GM needs to take a long hard look at their designs. Ford is the only one that hit the nail on the head with the new stang. Just look at the sales.
gasoline_fiend Dec 11th, 07, 6:21 PM That Chevelle "concept" is nothing more than a tweaking of the Volt concept car further down the list.
Why do they inisist on trying to bring back nameplates? I know, to get that nostalgic dollar from reminiscing consumers.
Granted, Ford has done pretty well with the retro Mustang. The Challenger has promise. The Camaro.....eh, I don't know.
steve70malibu Dec 11th, 07, 7:44 PM I notice that the car designer that drew these concepts must be the same one that came up with the sinister slant eyed headlight thing that they tried with the 2002 and later pickup trucks. What a bunch of %$#@
The camaro is cool looking but come on, looks like it's made by cadilac to me. I would think someone would make them resemble the originals a little better, ford and dodge had no problem doing it. Oh well sorry to vent.:(

Derek69SS Dec 11th, 07, 8:20 PM Whaaa Whaaa Whaaaaaaa! :p
You guys are too predictable. :D Everything sucks, yada yada yada.
I like the styling, but would only consider buying one if available as a STATION WAGON :)
One Bad 70 Dec 12th, 07, 2:30 AM Nice car, but just a concept. Most concepts never happen!
Hopefully you're right about these ones. They all do look the same....
joes66 Dec 12th, 07, 2:54 AM Gm is just biting. What happended to them.Im not a ford guy at all but they hit a homerun with the mustang. Why cant gm do the same.Nothing has better lines then the old gm camaro or chevelle.Take advantage of them. The muscle car style of the late 60s early 70s has so much appeal to so many and gm just cant get it straight.
Chris27 Dec 12th, 07, 2:42 PM If GM does produce it, they will way overprice it and the people that actually want one can't afford it. Remember the GTO? Or the last F-body? The reason Ford has done so well with the Mustang is because you can still by a stripped down low-option car with a V8. GM should take notes!
steve_sutherland Sep 11th, 09, 8:41 PM the only way I want to see a new chevelle, is it if looks just like any of ours, the challenger sort of has it, I will be 100% on board if I here of a new chevelle and it looks just like a badass 67 with an LS7 427 in it
SteelChevelle/ Sep 11th, 09, 8:53 PM I will take one of the new LS7 motors for the "Corvette SS"....:D
750 HP? Supercharged 7.0?
I am so in...
