: What do you guys think of this 65. A little leary.
djshakes Dec 10th, 07, 2:39 PM I sold my 65 a couple years ago and miss it dearly. I want to get another car and I am ready to step up. I was looking at this car on ebay because it is near me and pretty much what I want. Ebay number 280180875588. I spoke with the owner a couple days after the listing about the car. I mentioned I would want to come and see it. I called him on Saturday and he wouldn't return my calls to come look at it. I emailed him through ebay a couple times regarding basic questions (why is the oil pan dented, etc.). After the questions I told him who I was and wondered why he didn't return my phone calls and why he wouldn't want to make a local sale to avoid shipping. I also asked for the VIN and engine codes which I have not received. I really want an all original 65 and this looks like a decent one. Frame off for around $20K! I notice the trunk wasn't painted properly and he did mention that he put the dust cover back on near the tranny which is missing in the pics. What do you guys think? I really want another 65!
TonyZ Dec 10th, 07, 3:06 PM If you get to see the car maybe you can answer your own question. If the seller seems like he has something to hide even after you let him know what you want then maybe something is up. I would try again and see if things are different this time around.
Dean Dec 10th, 07, 3:10 PM Looks pretty good.

DaleM Dec 10th, 07, 3:51 PM Pretty little 65! My eyes started hurting about the 10th line so I stopped reading - those all CAPS ads are terrible to read, especially a skinny font like that. Your profile doesn't say where you're from - is the car close to you to inspect it?
dirtrocker Dec 10th, 07, 5:15 PM If U google that phone # U can find a bit out about the guy.

aww man lets don't start that "U" stuff :(
y o u isn't really all THAT hard to type.

Dean, these pages are full of IIRC, IMHO, VIN, heck even WTF which I was chastised for using once then saw in use freely afterward ( is or was even part of a member's user name I recall ).
All I did was try to help a member find out more about a prospective seller fo a car he was interested in.
Is my habit of using U really that offensive?
djshakes Dec 10th, 07, 6:35 PM I'm in San Diego. The guy just seems sketchy about letting me come see it.
DaleM Dec 10th, 07, 6:45 PM WE DO WELCOME ANYONE TO COME SEE THIS BEAUTY IN PERSON AND DRIVE ITKind of scarry they wouldn't honor their ad.
Dean Dec 10th, 07, 7:48 PM Dean, these pages are full of IIRC, IMHO, VIN, heck even WT* which I was chastised for using once then saw in use freely afterward ( is or was even part of a member's user name I recall ).

I'm sure that is appreciated

I've been trying to delete all those wt*'s when I see them so they aren't really used freely, they're just slipping through the cracks but that's for a different reason and the reason is, there is absolutely no reason we can't maintain a "NO profanity" site.
Sadly, a few people do keep insisting on doing it. :clonk:
As for the other stuff, well, "IN MY HONEST OPINION" is a little harder to type than "y o u" and the same with "Vehicle Identification Number" plus the use of "VIN" has been around years before computers were around.
"offensive", oh maybe "offensive" is a little too harsh, it's about the same as typing in all upper case I suppose. I just hate to see lazy stuff I guess.
Like I said, y o u really isn't all THAT hard to type is it?
MalibuSeaS Dec 10th, 07, 8:03 PM I notice the trunk wasn't painted properly
Please explain in detail.
djshakes Dec 10th, 07, 8:11 PM Should have the grey splatter style paint. Not a big deal.

Wow, I want your blue chevelle in a hardtop. Gorgeous car.
Stalkingbear Dec 10th, 07, 11:04 PM The rear bumper doesn't have the back up lights? To my knowledge, a '64 has no back up lights in the bumper - the '65's do....
Nice looking car.
Belair Dec 10th, 07, 11:09 PM If it is what you want go ahead and bid what you want. Take cash when you go to pick it up and INSPECT it good. If it is not what you think he advertised, walk away. He does have good feedback. If I were to buy a vehicle on Ebay I would have to inspect it in person before committing.
MalibuSeaS Dec 10th, 07, 11:17 PM The rear bumper is a for a 64. IMO I wouldn't buy it :noway:. There are some nice 65s out there but something just doesn't seem "right" about this one. Thanx for the nice word about my 65.
LKN BCK Dec 11th, 07, 12:03 AM Maybe it is a 64 1/2 :)
The worst pics I have ever seen of someone trying to sell a car...
Beware!!!

Yeah, and he won't call me back or let me come see it. BS. He initially sounded nice on the phone. He won't even email a VIN or engine codes.
Man, I want to find a nice 65 for about $20K. Think it is possible. I don't want a hot rod looking one. Just a stocker SS.
Augustboy2009 Dec 11th, 07, 3:36 PM I know where a beautiful 1964 white chevelle is for sale right now. This car is so so nice. The dude is asking 23k for it. He's had offers for 20k but i don't think he'll take anything less than 22K for it.
Let me know if your interested. The car is located in Las Vegas.
rak1 Dec 11th, 07, 3:47 PM I'd go with what your instints are telling you. If your gut is telling you something is wrong most of the time something is wrong. Another car will come along; I always felt the the car picks you; not the other way around. Look at Christine for example.:D
Keith Tedford Dec 11th, 07, 4:03 PM The internet and magazines are full of nice cars. No need to go after a car when there are red flags flying. I know when I sell a car, the guy is free to come and take it for a drive as well as look it over. I even let the last guy drive our L78 car as well. He wasn't expecting that, but did have a BIG smile on his face. Of course, if you have something to hide.......... Don't let a shiny paint job blind you to reality.

Thanks a bunch, but my heart is set on a 65. I like the front clip better and my dad had one when he was a kid. I have been scouring the magazines and internet for the past 3 months. I must know every car out there. There were two on ebay that ended recently that were super nice. A teal one and an evening orchid one from the same seller. However, they were on the East coast. I am not making the mistake of buying one until I see it again.
MikeMalibu Dec 11th, 07, 6:48 PM Took me two years to find my 65. Just be patient and you'll get the right one.

DJ,
How about updating your profile to show where you live? Maybe you'll get a member or two nearby to where you are with some ideas of where some nice '65's are. Worth a try?
