: What kind of aftermarket parts would you like to see??
SSnooj Dec 10th, 07, 4:44 AM Hey fellas,
I was just wondering what kind of aftermarket parts y'all would like to see made. Whether it be replacement parts that just aren't made aftermarket, or other parts that would be cool, but nobody makes 'em- Like those stainless strikers Trayb did; that's a great idea, and it's one of those "why hasn't anyone thought of that before" deals
I found it strange that nobody makes tail light housings aftermarket ('70)... Or maybe they do and I've just never seen 'em. But, I guess it's not a big deal since you can usually find them on ebay.
Anybody else have things like that in mind?

OLDED Dec 10th, 07, 9:06 AM * 68 SS dash plastic. All other years eeem to be available, why not the 68?
* Rear quarters and lower rear patch panels for the 64 - 67 Elkys
kev1971SS Dec 10th, 07, 9:35 AM The rear package tray on my '71 is pretty rough. I'm surprised that nobody remanufactures this along with the steel panel behind the rear seat. The interior window channel is also pretty rusty. I will end up fabricating/patching everything up but if these panels were reproduced I would probably buy them.
66ElkyBB Dec 10th, 07, 9:44 AM Rear bumpers for 66 and 67 El Caminos and Wagons.

BlueSS454 Dec 10th, 07, 10:37 PM The springs and clips that are used for the brake pedal return would be nice, the white plastic triangles for mounting 70-72 tail light housings in the rear bumper, Brake light, turn signal, and high beam indicator plastic lenses for 70-72 round pod dashes, 70-72 dash pads that have the provisions for the clips to attach it to the base of the windshield, power window harnesses, and some other things I can't think of right now.
dude67 Dec 10th, 07, 11:03 PM Stock type stainless steel gas tanks. It can't be that hard to just switch materials!!
SSnooj Dec 10th, 07, 11:43 PM There has to be a good market for some of this stuff... Maybe someone with connections will hear these requests and get 'em in the works.

Hell, yes. Which pretty much rules out the Chinese and other offshore imports.
Heck, I don't know.. How about a Dynocorn Chevelle Body... minus the cowl.
Hell, NO. Why would you want a body shell stamped out of the wrong gauge steel, and imported from the Far East?
As for me, I'm looking for an aluminum intake for an 8.1 liter that allows for a carb and distributor. I'd take a Performer RPM-style dual-plane; a Torker II/Street Dominator single plane; but what I really want is a cross-ram like the removable-top units made for smallblocks. No, I don't want imported junk.
I'll keep dreaming.
Chris R Dec 13th, 07, 9:09 PM I dont have a wagon, but I know those with 64-65 2 door wagons could really use pillars like the rear passenger devider between the two sections of windows. A good source for rear window motors would also be nice.
68bye Dec 13th, 07, 9:35 PM Everything listed, but we need cool stuff too. Like engine badges for more of the popular non/stock engine sizes. ie: 496, 509, 540, 632, etc.
Where's that guy from PHR magazine when you need him? Are you listening?
Silk_Hope Dec 13th, 07, 9:52 PM 4 Door, Malibu and base car parts.
cobaltchev67 Dec 14th, 07, 8:19 AM '67:
window parts/tracks etc.
wiper arms/transmissions and linkage just like the originals
gauge bezels/assemblies that fit auto meter style gauges with plenty of support/thickness, and are NOT DIGITAL
radios
center rear bumper bracket
cowl/piece that fits over wiper arms/transmission
heater controls
trunk/deck lid rod assemblies
A pillar covers(outside)
heater boxes(heater core bolts into this)
tilt steering column....non column shift
and of course CARBON FIBER EVERYTHING having to do with weight savings.
Am I missing anything off the list for '67s?:D
PCB67SS Dec 14th, 07, 8:29 AM I'd settle for a GM quality front disc brake spindle/knuckle and caliper bracket for A body's. (American Made)
bowtie6872 Dec 14th, 07, 9:03 AM just dashes,,
makes a 3(gauge)pod dash pad for 68-72 chevy trucks...
I'd like to see that made for chevelles...
350_Malibu Dec 14th, 07, 12:03 PM How about parts that fit! Or replacement body panels that use the original metal thickness, oh yeah and make them fit!
And for all replacement parts for these cars... Make them affordable. Because this has now become a hobby and collectors market, the part makers/distributors have jacked the prices of everything so high that the common blue collar worker can't afford much of the "good" aftermarket parts!
sixredsoxfans Dec 14th, 07, 12:09 PM I will agree with Mike, 66-67 A-pillar covers, cowl piece over wiper transmission, and 66 eyebrow moldings that are NOT made out of tin foil. Just in general, I would like to see parts that are made better than what GM did and made in America, ok ok, I am dreaming but you asked.

have you looked into what steel cost now...
plus the shipping from plant to vendor...

everythings gone up..
venders need to do the same

I'm not specifically talking about the prices of panels. I know the cost of steel is high and to be honest I would pay extra for the right thickness on repair panels.
The high prices I'm speaking of are all aftermarket parts in general, whether OEM type parts or upgrade parts they are all way too expensive. Sure there is cheap'o China made crap you can buy I suppose. But even the China made stuff is over priced.
Don't worry vendors do mark up thier parts, no problems there! I don't blame them either, they need to make a living also. It's america, free trade and the way it should be. But seriously, open up a catalog Jegs, Summit take your choice you don't think the prices are just a tad high for 99% of those parts?
I guess I'm just venting about something that has bugged me a lot lateley, don't flame me too hard.
bowtie6872 Dec 14th, 07, 3:12 PM yes they are high..
but people pay it..
warehouse space isn't cheap..
I'd like things to cost less,
but it isn't gonna happen..
novaderrik Dec 14th, 07, 7:58 PM if people are buying the parts, then the prices must not be too high.
bitching about the price of resto parts is like complaining about how much it costs to fill up the gas tank in your daily driver suburban- sure, you can complain all you want, but in the end, you still buy it.
rcrchsr16 Dec 14th, 07, 9:07 PM How 'bout 70-72 wheel well mouldings that are of the quality of original GM pieces? Those aftermarket ones from Corvex are good on the outside running around the wells but where they screw to the body, especially the rear ones, look like they've been made with a ball peen hammer or finished with a box of rocks! Just terrible. Since NOS sets are going for $500 or more, there's obvoiusly a market for quality pieces, and I for one would pay more than the Corvex price of $99 for the current lousy ones!
floyd66 Dec 14th, 07, 9:13 PM This is a good thread, lets hear more parts wanted ideas.
66 chevelle bucket seat floor mounts. The real kind that GM used not the ones that are now available.
Quality RED kick panels. If you already are molding them in black, why can't you do all the colours? I'm not buying the black ones.
Anthony72SS Dec 14th, 07, 9:45 PM Bullet style mirrors for 71-72. I think they finally have the LH but I have not seen the RH.
Kimberr Dec 14th, 07, 10:15 PM Parts for 300 Deluxe 2 dr post cars:doors,full 1/4 panels,glass,int trim/panels,correct seat covers.
Tilt steering for '69.
Carbonfibre SS hood.
Proper gauge sheet metal parts.
Smooth firewall kit .
Basket handle rear spoiler.(just kidding)
Vehicle specific front air dam.
TUBULAR FRONT LOWER CONTROLL ARMS that improve geometry !!! (I would insert smiley face here but can't figure out how)
phakekname Dec 15th, 07, 12:40 AM I second the motion for sport mirrors on 71-72s! A passenger side one would sell like crazy. Maybe even just the base, so we could use the mirrors that we bought on ebay that were supposed to fit!
bowkevin Dec 15th, 07, 6:35 AM How about ashtrays and light, wiper, and radio knobs for a 66!!
novaderrik Dec 15th, 07, 1:50 PM Stock type stainless steel gas tanks. It can't be that hard to just switch materials!!
actually, there's more to it than just "switching materials".
stainless bends and welds way differently than regular steel and it costs a LOT more. you end up throwing aways a LOT more bad parts- which adds to the cost of the "good" parts.
and why do you need a stock type stainless tank? the oem galvanized steel tanks last 30-40 years or more.

NOTHINBUT69s Dec 15th, 07, 4:55 PM How about the American man running those American presses again.
How about side cowl panels behind the fenders
jaf6738 Dec 15th, 07, 5:23 PM A few years ago I took my orig hood louvers off my 67 SS to p***s chrome for an est. He told me that repops are being made and for $200.00 (1/3 of his cost to re-do mmine) I should just buy them, and I did! So now I have a set of repops that are 3/16 shorter. I refuse to put them on my car. You would think that with all the time it takes to tool for a repo part to be made, that they would at least measure to make sure that it's the same length. Another piece of s**t from China!
rcrchsr16 Dec 15th, 07, 10:14 PM They could make that tank out of aluminum rather easily, right?

rak1 Dec 18th, 07, 10:57 AM Inner bed metal for '64-67 Camino's including smuigglers box cover, smugglers support brackets, floor, and sides parts made out of the correct steel thickness.
72convertibless454 Dec 18th, 07, 12:20 PM I would like to see the correct air cleaner for 1972 cowl induction that includes the heat riser sheet metal that goes on the manifold. These parts are bringing big $'s on e-bay.
Neal Wright Dec 19th, 07, 7:47 AM Honestly, I've considered making this ... as I think there's a HUGE market!
Rear window corner sections for '68-72 A-Body!!
I see no other part on an A'body ... that is guaranteed to be rusted out, and a generic piece would patch virtually every A'body style from '68-72.
I am serious though, anybody want to get into making these with me?
Neal

AXEMAN39 Dec 19th, 07, 9:10 PM How about some new chrome vent window frames for 68-72 El Caminos.
jcvelco64 Dec 19th, 07, 10:25 PM 64-65 el camino quarter panel with the body line like the chevelles
G.Hiller Dec 19th, 07, 10:39 PM I would like BFGoodrich to make a set of slicks, with the Exact same white letters as on the regular T/A's....Best looking tire on ANY musclecar..bar-none....Except,when I bolt on my slicks it looks like a 16 yr old. kids car..
sheet metal patches specific to 64-65 Oldsmobiles like the wheel openings.
Chevl_Steve Jan 27th, 08, 9:41 PM I did look at the ones on E-Bay, and agree they would probably sell, but since you have to weld them in ...if you can do that much, you won't find it too hard to cut some metal to shape.
Now if you wanted to make up some stainless brake lines to drain water out of those corners, that might be of interest?
Steve
Russtea2 Jan 27th, 08, 9:48 PM '68-'72 front body mounts (firewall side of the toeboard)....see alot of them in bad condition up here in Pa. I had to use a doner set from a 69 Skylark on my '72

savage71chevelless Apr 5th, 08, 4:24 PM Not that I need them, but with all the 71-72 SS Chevelles and 70-81 Z28's running around I can't believe that nobody repops the wheels for these cars.
BACK FROM THE DEAD Apr 6th, 08, 4:02 AM Big-Dude tires from the 70's, and a badass clutched blower drive like Mad Max had.
Keith Tedford Apr 6th, 08, 10:30 AM It would be nice to get parts that even look like originals. We already know about fit. I was just looking at Chevelle floor pan cross sills. Instead of square nuts welded to the sills for the seat anchors, they have rounded threaded inserts crimped in. What usually happens is that we are so far into the project, that we don't have time to send the stuff back so that we can find something better. The body shop can't wait. Been there.
