I came across this $1875 BBC kit offered by Speedomotive. Its' a "mountain motor stroker kit for a daily driver" according to their website:
454 (4.31" bore) - 510 cu. in.
4.375" forged crank
6.385" forged long rods
JE flat top forged pistons
Grant rings
9.5 CR w/110cc heads
Would this be a reliable kit for a sub-6000 RPM engine?
Charles
I don't think you'll like the work involved in getting a 4.375 crank and long rods into a factory block.

Do you suppose the prices are so good because the parts are Communist Chinese?

TJC,
I am just curious but how does the rod length play into the fittiment into the block?
This may sound dumb, but I thought that they used different pistons and stuff to make it about the same.
Reason I ask is because I have 6.385 rods in my 462 (4.282 bore, 4.00 stroke) and I was wondering if they had to do anything special to the block to get the bigger rods in there? I thought it just used a modified/different piston?

Matt,
Whan you get over 4.250 stroke it gets a bit touchy at the pan rails because of the extra stroke.
It can be done but you may also "find" the main oil galley or the water jacket on some blocks ;)

Wolfplace, so how do I know if my 454 block can accept the 4.37" stroke safely? It doesn't all come down to a shot in the dark, does it? Have you had experience building a BBC with this size crank?
Thanks, Charles

From the looks of my '74/'75 P/U block 496, it sure looked like it would swallow a 3/8" arm with min. grinding!!
It swallowed my 496 rotating assembly with stock truck rods with NO grinding at all except a schosh at the oil pump nut area.
BUT if I was to step up to a 3/8" arm, I would ALSO step up to a Bowtie, Dart or Merlin-Pro Block and MAKE A BIG MOTOR!!!
