I am trying to remove my 69 dash pad. in addition to the exterior screws there appears to be pins and nuts that run through the top of the dash plate. Do I have to remove the instrument cluster to get to the one above or is there a short cut? Thanks.

i would take the screws out of the dash bezel, try to pull it out somewhat and remove those nuts.take the radio knobs off and nuts that hold the radio to bezel.you might have to take the heater controls loose also. hope this helps.greg

if I remember right, I was able to get to mine with a 5/16 nut driver, with my jedi knight skills... I ended up taking my gauges out anyway, to clean em up... be very careful if you try to clean your gauges... I used a soldering iron to remove plastic rivets and reinstall them... again if you do this be very careful as to what cleaner you use to wipe gauges down with... the old paint can come right off!!!

while you have it out, I would highly recommend pulling winshield and touching up the paint on the surface between dash and windshield... you have to use a zero gloss paint though.

also there are two above the glove box that you have to take your box out to get to or reach around with long gorilla like arms to reach, from radio area... recommend you take out glove box... if you zoom in on the pic I posted it might help give you a general idea of where some of the screws are...I hope you have a good replacement... I bought mine from ss396.com and love mine... in my opinion it is better than the original. If your doing all that work I would highly recommend replacing it... unless its in PERFECT shape... and if thats the case your crazy for removing it...
good luck my project went from what I thought would be one day, to three 12 hour days straight, pulling winshield, sanding, primer paint... running wires for stereo that I don't have, but just in case, mine used to be a floor shift with no console, now it has one... bought it from opgi... I think there are prolly better ones out there... but it looks good... removing old carpet...scraping off the old padding... sanding floor... por15 on the floor... etc... you know how it goes, once you start, you just can't stop... at least I can't
if you pull gauges be sure to have lots of beer handy as you have to be a contortionist to get to everything...
:beers:
