can i get by with breaking in my new tight-lash solid oval track cam with the single springs(with dampers)that came with it? would it be safer to buy special break-in rockers? why do some people use the special break-in rockers? does it have something to do with how radical the cam is that constitutes using special break-in procedures?thanks.

Me thinks that it's recommended to help the cam start the spinning process on the lifters/ push-rods? Crane actually recommends that you look at that, during the break in and spin the push-rod to help it start, if they don't start on by itself!!!! When the don't spin the cam dies fast....for sure. It's no damm wonder so many new non roller cams die an early death... with all the special crap one has to do .. graemlins/angry.gif Not roller cams graemlins/thumbsup.gif

455,
Breakin rockers are nothing more than a low ratio rocker. usually 1.2 or 1.3
What this does is drasticly reduce the load over the nose as you are not opening the valve as far.
Seat pressure has very little to do with hurting a new cam, it is the open pressure that kills it.
With a low ratio rocker like 1.3 on a rat with a .600 lift cam you are only opening the valve .459 which would lower open spring pressure a bunch :D
If you don't have break in rockers & a are using a hi pressure single spring I would put lighter springs on to break in the cam.
460 ford springs work real well on rats. Don't remember the part number but they end up in the 60-70 seat / 200-250 open or something like that.
