My buddy just bought this 406. It has dished pistons, not sure which ones, and 461 heads that have been ported and polished. The cam is a cheap summit cam. This is the one, http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2DK1107&autoview=sku

Has anyone ran this cam? I know it`s similar to the Performer RPM cam but is the summit grind any better? The advertized specs are a little smaller than the rpm grind. The motor is going in a 4spd 65 nova that currently has a mild 350 in it. My buddy doesn`t know too much about engines and doesn`t know how cam numbers effect performance. Thanks guys.

try the search button. :D

Nice try but the search only came up with one thread using the summit part number. This isn`t the same as you asking for 396 info on 2 different forums without trying yourself.

Should be fine.

Gonna need a 1800 to 2200 stall and some mid 300 series gears.Check for rocker arm and pushrod clearance on those old heads. And for your info,he should be able to use Comp.Cams Magnum Roller Rockers with no problems.I have them on my S.B. with 186 cast heads.

Pinning the studs on the heads is a good (cheaper than screw in studs)idea.

A performer intake,600 C.F.M.carb,and 1 1/2 primary tube headers would be wise choices.Idle vac.should be in the 14" range at 850 R.P.M.'s.
