: NW Engine Builders/Machine Shop Recommendations?
winmon Dec 7th, 07, 7:14 PM I am wondering if you NW guys have any recommendations for a good performance engine builders/machine shop in Western Washington?
Anyone have any experience with DG Machine in Auburn, or Britco Racing Engines in Centralia? Thanks!!
FourEightyNine Dec 7th, 07, 8:45 PM No experience with those two shops, but you might wana talk to FRYNTYR, hes a local in the NW group. I think he can point you in the right direction.:D

Britco built my 396/375 short block and 840 rect port heads. Broke it in on their dyno after I assembled it. I have been very happy with the motor. They can build anything you want. JMO
66SSFan Dec 8th, 07, 12:06 AM ED's Automotive and machine in Mukilteo is great, speacializes in racing motors and high-end restorations. Expensive though.
Art Davidson is also a great machinist and builder in Auburn.
IMHO do not go to PED!
I'v ridden in Mike's car and its AWESOME, BRE must do good work.
justkyle Dec 8th, 07, 12:08 AM What are you looking to have done? There are lots of competent machinist around Western Wa. But are you looking for someone to just do your machining or do your machining and assembly?
I personally chose to have my machine work done at Waterhouse in Tacoma, But I assembled it myself. I wouldn't trust them to do a quality high performance assembly.
Fat Tire Dec 8th, 07, 7:41 AM Dave,
Britco is one of the best machine shops you will find and they have a great reputation. From everybody I know anyway... Ed up here in the Mukilteo area is extremely knowledgable but Extremely expensive. He has been specializing in some local Hydro's for a long time. He does know his stuff. Excellent with blower motors. The best all around that I recommend is Auto Truck Service here in Everett. They do from mild to wild. They do stock rebuilds, to as fast as you want to go. Their Firebird ran mid 6's at 200+. Talk to Kerry or Jeremy... Good luck
Jim_D Dec 8th, 07, 10:36 AM Auto Truck Service in Everett does all my work. Don't let the name fool ya. Jeremy and Kerry are high performance engine guys and know Chev engines about as good as anybody. BTW, they also built a door slammer car that went into the 6.70's or so a few years ago.
winmon Dec 8th, 07, 12:22 PM Thanks guys!
What are you looking to have done?
Nothing major. Just installing heads (maybe milling them down to get more compression also), and installing/degreeing a cam. While it is apart I will have them check out everything else (pistons, cylinders, etc). I would also like to have the motor dyno'd too so I can get some #'s for a stall convertor. I have Chris Straub putting together the combo of parts (heads, cam, manifold, carb) that I will need.
Is this the Auto Truck Service you are referring too?

You won't find a more honest person wtih Dale at DG Machine. He has built many of my race motors and is a fellow racer himself. He's not just a race specific shop, he will build anything and guide you exactly where you want to be and the quality is top notch.
That being said, I also have friends who run Britco motors and their stuff is fast and well built. With either of these two shops you will not go wrong.

Are you building something else or ???
kettbo Dec 8th, 07, 10:55 PM Bud's in Lakewood near McChord AFB and Cope Bros in Parkland.
Cope has done 2x sets of BBC heads and checked my RatVette's 427 out after teardown. Good advice, great people. Bud, going from what the long-time gearheads around here say.

Thanks !! No, not building another car. I am looking into going with a new combo on my 502. More compression, bigger heads, ,cam, intake and carb. I made the mistake of taking the car to the track and now I want to go faster
