I bought my suburban about 4 months ago, the trailer hitch is on the back, I cannot it it off. So far I sprayed PB blaster on it and took a 6 foot long Iorn rod to both sides of it but it still won't come off. any idea's.... heat?

check for spot welds on the back of the hitch, they could be on the back top to...some people are overcautious.
Be careful with heat around the gas tank....

Is it the ball you can't get off or the thingy you slide into the receiver with the ball on it? Those can be a bitch to get out. The trailer place had to use a tractor to pull the one out of our Excursion. I used a scissors jack and a lot of PB Blaster to get one out of a Suburban a few years back. Just stand back, they fly pretty far when they finally pop.

I bought a Suburban that hadn't had a hitch in the receiver for a long time so it had accumulated a lot of rust inside.
I drove a hitch in with a small sledge and when I went to sell the Burb, I couldn't get it out, even by chaining it to a tree and jerking it.
I finally said to heck with it and left it in.
Learned a lesson though leave the hitch in so it can rattle around and keep the rust from building up.

I think the trick is to take it out once in a while and keep it lubed up with grease

I leave mine in my 2500HD. A tailgater would hate that 2 5/16 ball on a 6" drop going through their grill if I stop quick. It's just a little extra insurance.

I had one get stuck in the receiver of my old truck too. Like Dean, I tried chaining it to a tree and jerking it out..... no dice. I was quite suprised - even with a pretty good running start, it wouldn't budge.

I did get it out though.... by banging it rearward with a mini sledge. I had to give it quite few hard whacks, but I was really suprised that the small sledgehammer worked, when throwing 6500 lbs of truck at it didn;'t.

2 ways I've found that eventually work. I own an RV repair center so see plenty of hitches come my way, mostly on motorhomes.

Anyway,

1. Take heavy duty deadblow hammer and hit side to side and up and down. Spray generously (as you have done) but do it after a series of hits. PB blaster works best when vibration is present to help penetrate rust.

2. Let blaster dry thoroughly and soak with water. Yes, water. Water actually breaks up rust in things like tools better than the time it takes to wire wheel a pair of pliers.

Also could try heat on the outside of the hitch. The ball mount (part with ball attached) won't heat as fast, and should start to move.

Good luck!

I got rear ended south of Atlanta a few weeks ago. It was just a tap, and I had the receiver in the hitch, so I never got out to look. The guy that hit me never did either, and passed me a few miles later. I had no damage, and couldn't see anything on his car either. I leave mine in all the time, as if I take it out, something comes up and I need a hitch. It is stuck in there pretty good now, and will get sold with the truck someday.
