I picked up an 89 Chevy Silverado that i'm trying to fix up into my work truck...
It has power windows & locks, but they don't work.

i've checked all the fuses... next step is to start replacing the switches, but before i do i'd like to track down the wiring just to make sure there isn't a relay somewhere thats blown...

Problem is the Chiltons Manual i bought doesn't show anything in the wiring diagram for power windows & locks... the owners manual doesn't say anything about relays... but i know it must have some somewhere....

Does someone have the Chevy Shop manual for 1989 trucks that could scan the diagram, or anyone have an older haynes manual (they were much better than chiltons....) that might have a diagram with the power windows stuff in it?

I've gone out to several chevy truck message boards, and have found other people posting about the same problem, but no responses....

Anyone here have one of these trucks and run into this problem?

Thanks-
Ben

The first thing I would do is check the wiring on the driver's door. From opening and closing the door over a long time the wires will break inside the rubber accordian boot that is between the door and the hinge pillar.

And---- inside the wiring boot, there is a welded ground splice that is tied to locks and someting under the dash:confused:. (the trucks I worked on had both doors spliced in the driver side--locks and windows)

I have worked on a couple of these and the welded splice broke.

GM in their infinite wisdom, thought it would be a good thing to have a splice in a door that is worked 2 times every time the engine is cycled:mad:
