: Carb spacer ???

I just put a new 355 in my 72 GMC truck and am using my old Weiand 8004 spread bore intake that I cleaned and painted. I am also running a Holley 80457. I have the Mr. Gasket spacer #1932. This is a square bore carb on a spread bore manifold. Right now I do not have the spacer installed. Do I absolutely have to run the spacer plate? I will probably get better performance with it, correct?

I thought you needed the spacer in order to not have a huge vaccum leak, I could be wrong. How does it run now?

It runs ok. I broke it in with no spacer. And I have put about 100 miles on it now. The gaskets that came with the spacer didn't seem to fit the intake right though.

A square bore carb on a square bore manifold should not need any spacers or adapter plates.

I have run a Holley 750 and 950HP on my Edelbrock Performer 2 spreadbore manifold. I didn't use the adapter. The gasket and carb baseplate covers the large secondary holes fine.
