: '68 Reproduction Dash Bezel ?

I have found several places on the internet, such as www.yearone.com (http://www.yearone.com), that sell reproduction dash bezels for '66 Chevelles, '67 Chevelles, '69 Chevelles, '70 Chevelles, etc...every year except '68 Chevelles.

Regardless of where I have looked so far, reproduction dash bezels for the other years are offered, but not for '68 Chevelles.

Why not?

Also, does anyone know of any site that sells a reproduction dash bezel for a '68?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Regards,
-Greg

Never seen one. Your best bet is find a decent one and have it restored.

Never seen one.

Never seen a '68 reproduction dash bezel, or never seen a reproduction dash bezel period?
I can find plenty of them around...for every year except 1968.

Your best bet is find a decent one and have it restored.

The reproductions are new, indistinguishable from the originals, and are cheaper than having an original restored.
I just can't find one anywhere for a '68...what's up with that?

I found a clean one on ebay with no cracks just needs a little paint for around $150, also found a clean 68 steering wheel with no cracks for about $125. I've seen them once and awhile restored going for a couple hundred on ebay, just got keep checking on them. I've only seen a new 68 dash bezel being offered with aftermarket gauges in the back of some magazines, theyre not cut out for the original gauges but for the aftermarket round ones like autometer.

Well, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I'm not going to find a reproduction dash bezel for a '68.

But, just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea why they are available for the other years but not for 68's?

For a manufacturer to decide to produce a product it will take the right combination of investment and return on investment. Thus I might surmise that a combination of lack of perceived demand and higher complexity of the part may have prevented any reproductions being offerred. This is a drawback of the one year product cycle so common in our vintage autos, it reduces the number of potential replacement purchases of any particular part.

You can bail on the OEM approach and convert over to Covan's Classics. It is not without it's own issues, as you can find with a search. That was the direction I went on my '68 El Camino.

By any chance, do you have a picture of your dash?
Thanks.

I've seen one like that on E-bay (new), not too long ago. It was pre-drilled for AutoMeter gauges, can't remember the cost.
