Hi guys,

I was reading through some posts and was wondering how many success stories there are for using peanut ports. My set has the 225cc intake which is the biggest that the peanuts come in that I have found. There was a guy that said he new someone that had a nova in the low 12's with peanuts. Has anyone else heard of such an animal? I don't want to make an insane engine and thought if the peanuts can get me 400hp or so I might keep them.

Food for thought..Olds 455's only have 170-180 cc intake runners..even the Edelbrock heads are not bigger than 180 cc's
With that in mind,if thats all you got, run'em,but if they (the peanut heads) need work, you might as look for a pair of large ovals that need work, which would cost you about 100-200 for another pair of decent castings.

I'm sure they have mileage on them and I would have them gone through just to be on the safe side. Guess I will keep my eye out for set of good ovals, everything I'm seeing right now are unassembled. Go figure, is there really a difference between closed and open chambers for this type of setup?

Hit the swap meets there are lots of heads out there and many can be bought reasonable. Shipping them gets expensive at 70lbs apiece. Just make sure U get the pistons to make the compression your looking for with the combustion chamber of your heads.

I am fairly new to all of this. How do you find out where and when there are swap meets? I am in Southeast Michigan.

Look in some latest issue hot rod mag's like Hot Rod, Car Craft, Super Chevy, Chevy High Performance, etc.. to see when some of them come around closer to your area..

Both of the 454's I have built have peanut port heads on them. Both engines put the car in the mid-high 12's. The one set is off a 366 truck engine. I ported them, cleaned them up a little, and put them on. They will stay on there until I find a decent set of ovals.

Can you share more details on those combos?

Perhaps you saw this info already but here it is.
I seem to recall another very good thread about the peanuts written by grumpyvette but I can't find it.
