Do I really need aftermarket front control arms? I understand increased alignment flexibility ..... my car will be adjusted for stock or slightly lower height .....weekend street / strip car never will be a "canyon carver" just installing QA1 "R" coil overs for stock control arms ....my stock arms all rebuilt with stock bushing etc what advantages can I expect with aftermarket arms .... using stock spindles ....... what about just aftermarket upper control arms ??Only want to do this once when car finally finished only want to tune on it,not change stuff

Appreciate any and all feedback / advice
Thanks Bill

Do you really need them? No. I'm running that set-up because I didn't want to take the chance with metal fatigued 35yr old A-arms on my protourer 69 El Camino. The ride height adjustment on the QA1 coilovers is a nice feature, too.

Thanks Clint .....extra stress from the coil overs and metal fatique ....had not thought of that, I went with the coil overs because of the ease of ride height adjustment

I went with the Global West kit - uppers, lowers, billet, QA1 coilovers, Del-alum, even new high-strength stainless bolts to attach the uppers to the frame. Amazing ride and the steering is way improved - I can make a u on my street now without hitting a curb. Yeah, my street's a little wider than most, but still - I was just blown away first time I tried it. Forgot something at home and without thinking just whipped a u.

But the real benefit is the ride, adjustability, and durability. This kit is about as bullet-proof as you can get. And I don't think GW is all that expensive anymore compared to all the other t-arm makers out there. GW's been at it longer than most - that's why I went with them. Check for a holiday special or something - maybe they have a deal going....

Best,

Mike

I agree,Mike. I went with the same set-up and included Baer's Track front disc kit. Works great.

I have the regular QA1's and the coil over and GW arms. Great ride. Don't need it, but doesn't hurt if you are just having fun. I have the global west upper arms, I bought them mainly because of the odd wheel/tire combo (and brakes, baer track system, love it!) I use, and added the coil over later. If you do the coil over and arms, my only suggestion is on the coil overs be sure to buy the little bearings that sit on the adjusting nuts-- or those "easy" ride height adjustments will just be a dream, and this way you won't have to install the system twice to use it (like me).
And on the upper arms, I have yet to find a shop that has been able to align them to gw's specs.. all the "chains" around here won't touch it, and the only mom and pop or small chains deals I could find at the end of the summer only one would try at it, and he said he couldn't get it right, and refused to talk to the global west tech guy on the phone even if I paid him the time to do it.... ok.. I'll shut up.. good ride overall if your doing it for fun, other than that...
