TKO-600 is unbelievable, I had Kidney stone Surgery yesterday, so I only got to drive the car from the shop to home. But all I can say is WOW. I installed in a 68 Nova, so basically almost no tunnel cutting, but I believe most Chevelles will need a fair bit of tunnel work. Is it worth the tunnel work, yes yes yes. www.Keislerauto.com (http://www.Keislerauto.com) is the place to look for the Tremec kit.
I have lots of details, on the install, which may or may not be too revelent to Chevelle, but will answer as many questions as I can. I do have pictures as well.
It may be a few days before I personally am back to speed, but the Nova is now 100% up to any speed I want. I did hit the highyway on the way home 65MPH at 1,950 RPM in 5th.
1st gear at 2.87 now makes my 3:73 rear like leaving the line with a 4:56 gears, can anyone borrow me a pair of slicks???
The transmission shifts 3 1/2" throws, just like a new corvette, need I say more.

Ah Gramps, that thing is gotta be a blast! Wish you a speedy recovery so you can get back to having fun! Gives you sometime to break the clutch in easy before you start a-bangin' away! Like, a day ;)

I'm sure many here would like some data on the swap.

I'm getting one for my 73 Camaro after I pick it up in California in Aug. I can't wait. I'd love pictures and to hear some of your pros/cons list.
Awesome choice!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

My TKO-600 # 5009 has the 2.87 1st gear and .64 5th. I purchased that one as it is a perfect choice for street, and highway.
If however you were drag racing you may want to choose the 3.27 1st and .85 5th gear. The drop from the 1:1 4 th gear to my 5th would, or could be a problem for some on the 1/4 mile if you had to use 5th to finish.
For me, my rev limiter is set at 6,600 with the 406, so in 1:1 4th, I am still ok for the 1/4 mile.
Do your math on gear drops to see what TKO fits your engine drive line combo.
The gear drops from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th are just awesome, all drops are right in the sweet spot of my TQ and HP range.
Again, its in the math.

From what I've been told I can only get the TKO-600 in the 2.81 and optional OD ratios. The 3.27 1st is offered only on the TKO-500, I thought....
Can I get a 3.27 1st on the 600?

COOL! keep us posted on how this trans works out, I've been saving my coins for one also. Sounds like the best manual gearbox out there for a street/strip car. I'll be selling two muncies as soon as my bank is full.

Awesome. How smooth are the shifts and is it a noisy trans at all? Not like i care, i'd put a screamin Jerico in a street car if it meant faster tongue.gif Also, what shifter did you put on it?

Hear you on the math, exactly why I jumped on the Richmond 5sp RR boxes when they came avail here. Perfect gear spacing, shift at 6750, drops to 4500 and so on, cross the line at 6800+. Sweet. Except no OD like you have. Would be nice on those 1500 mile round trips to Nashville.

i would be very interested in every detail of the swap- as i am planning the very same swap myself in my 71 Nova.
how much did it cost to your door- including shipping and all that jazz?

Just to answer a few questions quickly.
No noise at all from the trans, but I do have dynomat insulation and carpet.
Shifts like a Corvette Tremec 6 speed, the throw is about 3 1/2" and ultra fast clean etc. The throw to 5th, is a big gate change and I need to get use to it, as it is a big throw from 4th to overdrive. 1st through 4th pattern are ultra ulta quick. I was told that the shifter would be notchie for a while until it wears in a bit, and it does feel tight, but a good tight.
Cost, well go to www.keislerauto.com (http://www.keislerauto.com) look up your application and ask for a quote, there is no short cut to save a dollar here or there, so don't bother to try.Keisler has I think, the best price/engineered package out there. The site also has a nice calculator to figure gear differences etc.
