Hi-po SS 454

I ran into an old friend today that I run into many months apart and up to a year sometimes. I know he had a 68 SS Chevelle with 4 sp and 396 L78 WAY back. The car ended up sitting in his back yard forever along with a 66 corvette thats still sitting from at least the 80's. I find out he let the 68 SS go for $700, un*^#+*^real. The car was together with VERY little body damge, next to none.
Any way, he still has the 396 L78 because the nut that bought the car didn't want it. Its was numbers matching to that car. It is sitting in boxes with a stock rebuild and never put back together.
ANY idea how much this engine is worth COMPLETE pan starter carb intake, big heads cam. everything, HOW MUCH any idea. I'm trying to weasle this thing away from him, he don't seem to care much or doesn't know what he has. He won't let go at this time but as soon as he needs a little cash I told him to come to my door. Oh and a close ratio 4 speed muncie is with it, slips out of second when you let up on gas.. Would be sold separate from engine I'm sure. I told him I have cash ready. Whata you think ????????
