If just doing light work go with a miller 135. If you do some heavier fab work go with a millermatic 180. I have a 175(220v) but it was replaced with the 180. Works great for building trailers or body panels. Get the gas and .023 wire. You will not be dissapointed. My whole set up(welder, cart, full bottle, extra spool and auto change hood was $1200 out the door. Buy local, you will be surprised that most times it is cheaper than the best online price. They also discount the items when you buy everything at once.

thanks for the info. next question, anybody used a clarke or chicago elect. mig. i know there less expensive than some of the others . what about quality. i'm on a tight budget. i'd rather spend more on the car . doing a complete resto on 69 ss chevelle.(frame off) my father bought the car new , and want this thing to be nice.

One of the best deals going for a GOOD 110V (all you need for sheet metal work) mig welder is the Lincoln SP135T at www.weldingmart.com (http://www.weldingmart.com) for about $450. Add around $200 to buy a bottle and gas. Get at least an 80 cu ft bottle or you'll be refilling it too often. Get the widely available C25 gas (75% argon, 25% carbon dioxide).

used to have a Lincoln 135T, then upgraded to a Lincoln Power Mig 210...the 210 has a larger gun that is a little more cumbersome to work with in tight places....my vote is for a 135/140 model< I prefer Lincoln but either will do just fine.

I have a Nothern Tool 135 MIG (120v) which you can pick up for $299.99

Great welder to use for floor pans and anything 3/16" or less. Very pleased with it.

I also have a Hobart 187 MIG (240v) which you can pick up for $639.99

This welder creates very smooth welds and I have used to weld hardened 1/4" steel. I also made this welder portable by hooking it up to my 4400 Watt generator.

I just couldn't justify the prices of the Miller and Lincoln products.

I' bought a lincoln 135 from the local dealer a couple of year ago. It was used a summer at a NASCAR school. saved about $150 and it had full warranty. no problems and it does everything we need

I bought a miller 140 (115 volt) over the summer and its been great . It lays down some pretty smooth welds on sheetmetal.

I purchased a Miller 140 a couple months back. This is the first welder I've owned, but so far I'm very happy with it! Pictures of the welder and the cart I made for it are on cardomain (link in Sig.)
