As for mine, its a 396, that the prevous owner said was .030 over. Single plane edlebrock intake, (looks old) 750 vacuum secondary holley, 1 3/4" dynomax headers, 2 1/2" flowmaster exhaust, with 2 chamber mufflers, oval port openchamber heads, 4.10 rear gears, and a BW Super T-10 4 speed.
The car weighs 3650 lbs, 3895 with me, and a nearly full tank of gas in it.

Best run so far is 13.53 @ 106.42 mph.

I feel the car has a lot more pontential, if I could launch harder without excessive wheel spin.

402 60 over (408?), 10.25/1 CR, oval port open chamber heads, UD 272/282 550/570 solid cam, Performer RPM, 650 Double Pumper, MSD 6A (for sale), Hooker 1 7/8 Headers, 3 inch pipes with Flowmasters, 3.73's with a turbo 350.

Don't have any firm torque/horsepower numbers but I can fry my 275/60's going 40mph... :D

I'm building my 462 right now though. graemlins/hurray.gif

Use the search function here in the performance forum..lots of quick 396's/402's running around here..pay attention to the timeslip..not somebody's seat of the pants dyno opinion or guesses..JMHO and not meant to offend anyone..
Do you have an ET goal?

CHV71402,
What are the specs on the Comp Street 273/285 street roller you are running? Did you go the 11.92 N/A or with N2O? I am putting a street '69 together basically the same package but was figuring I would be in the 12.90 range, I may have grossly underestimated the potential of my "mild" combo.
402 + .030 = 408BBC
290 Oval Ports - stock valves
Reed 280/290 Hyd Roller (.228/.238 @ .050 .578 lift on 112 LSA)

1-3/4" headers into 2-1/2" mandrel exhuast, Dynomax Hemi Turbos (stealthlike quiet)

Box stock '72 402. Adding headers and Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust. Does a 14" air cleaner count?(lol) Its going in a 68 Nova that weighs about 3200lb. Think it can make the 14's? We'll see.

I can't wait to get this one together, its our first big block car. So we are all a little excited. :D

I do not have it on the car.

Just to show you how times and technology have changed. Years back (try late '70's) we had a '67 Chevelle that ran SS/JA (base car 396/325). SS/JA index 11.30. Essentially a warmed over 396/325 with a big solid roller. However, back then we were running 13/31 slicks with 5:13's, open drag headers. You are not far off with the solid roller, but I would assume you must have a loose front end to hook up, even with the drag radials.

GRN69CHV,
Although you never can seem to go fast enough, in my case, with no cage 11.90's is really all I can get away with. As for the suspension setup, I run Hotchkis 1" lowering springs on the front with regular Gabriel gas shocks no sway bar. Rear has SSM bars stock springs/shocks and an airbag. I occasionally drive down to Cecil County on route 10 a loose drag setup would be dangerous. I have tried not to sacrifice street manners too much to gain ET. Your hydraulic roller setup is close to my SR. I am curious to see how your combo performs. BTW I run Dynomax ultraflows with 3" head pipes 2.5 tails, gives a real Jekyl/Hyde personality.

Rad racer,a little advice about the BB in the nova......SUB FRAME CONNECTORS or a full boxed frame.Been there, done that and trust me you will twist that car up if you dont do one of the two.

The best I've seen for a long time is the Nova buildup on HPTV that Chuck and Joe are doing. It looks to still have the potential of twisting alittle bit,but there will always be a little give and take.

I watched a guy in Florida when I lived there 15 yrs ago build a 72 Nova Hatchback as I was in the process of building a 74 SS hatchback and put a 454 in it like I did(mine was a stock 74 454 out of a privately owned from day 1 police caprice). On the second launch with the car he twisted it so bad that the roof buckled ,cracked the windshield, and the doors never did fit right on that car again.Needless to say that the lesson taught to me by that guy frying his car kept me from twisting mine up. It immediately had a roll cage and rear frame fabricated for it.Just thought I would pass that along so you dont build this car in vain.

Dave,

We will have to get together at some point. I am actually just outside of West Chester, Pa.. There are quite a few guys running Chevelles in this area. You may know a friend of mine Steve(I'll hold back his last name), runs a Blue '69 at Cecil and sometimes Maple Grove. Took a 502/502 Crate, changed the cam and is running 10.90's through the exhaust. I am amazed at just how fast cars are today. In reality, we probably over ran everything years ago. The philosphy of building peek torque first, horsepower second has to be the answer.

We will have to try and meet at sometime. In the spring time there is small group of us that put together a dyno day in Pottstown. We get a discount with 5 or more cars. Also use the O2 meter. Its a good time. If your car is ready by then it is a good way to see where your at with the basic tuneup. Last year we had 4 chevelle's 1 late model camaro and a turbo buick. If not, the same group of us try to hit TNT days at either Maple Grove or Cecil. Much more fun with a group. Keep us posted on your build.

Hi Dave,
On dyno day, do they let you make some adjustments or is it a one-run deal only? I'd wouldn't mind getting mine dynoed

Hi Vince,
I am usually the one who sets up the day. We go to Performance Specialties in Pottstown. Last year we each made 2 pulls with the O2 hooked up it was 85 bucks. If your combo is off Ray will typically let you make MINOR adjustments between pulls. You can opt to make as many pulls as you like for more $$. We went last year at the Beginning of April. He has a grill outside the door of the shop. Burgers and dogs on the grill, cold beverages, motors screaming on the dyno... can't wait for Spring already. When I set this thing up I will annonce it here, see if we can get a bigger crowd this year. Performance Specialties also has a website, can't remember it right now, do a search check it out. Let me know if your interested.

He was running slicks wasn't he? I figured that with just street tires(Radial T/A's) I didn't need to worry about twisting it up. Mine won't even have traction bars for awhile. I will be surprised if a stock 72 402 has the torque to twist a Nova up.

MY combo: 69 Camaro TH400, 3.90 12 bolt posi

396, .030" over
Speed Pro L2240F30 8.34 to 1 compression at .025" deck height block decked .010"
open chamber heads: one 781 and one 049 head  with 2.19/1.88" GM stainless valves, bowl blended, set up for roller cam
Doug Herbert solid roller camshaft:
296/306 adv duration
240/250 at .050"
112 lobe sep, 108 int centerline
.569/.569" lift
Erson 1.7 Roller rockers
Edelbrock RPM intake
800 Holley double pumper
1 3/4" headers with 2 1/2" Dynomax exhaust
Accel HEI with Supercoil

Haven't completely finished the combo yet, as I am wanting to add a 6-71 blower and a 3000-3500 rpm stall. Naturally aspirated without the blower I am estimating 400-425 hp. With the blower and two 600 cfm carbs with 6psi boost, your guess is as good as mine!! graemlins/beers.gif
