: Solid core plug wires with an HEI?

Is it safe to run solid core spark plug wires with an HEI ignition? The solid core wires IMO are the best but I've been told not to use them with electronic ignitions like MSD, just wondering if use with an HEI is OK. A friend of mine with a six pack 440 mopar uses them with his factory type elctronic ignition with no problems, helps lite the fire even when his mixture is off on the six pack. Years back I ran a simple dual point setup with a Supercoil and solid wires that would throw a spark 4 inches! I don't need a radio :D

Yeah, but people around you are gonna be pissed.

Get the spiral core units. (I prefer MSD Super Conductors, but there's plenty of different brands.) No interference, little resistance, no headaches.

I still have a set of Taylor solid cores in a box. They worked mint on a Pertronix-fired stock system. Actually had BETTER reception on the old AM radio running the solid cores - go figure.

Why do people around you mind? Does the B-field affect their radios and such? ( btw, dont run them too close and parallel to one another - esp #5/7, as they will crossfire!)

The solid core (wire) plug wires offer less resistance than the spiral core or carbon core wires, that's why I want to use them. The radio noise I can live with, and I don't have any neighbors. I'll try them out and post back what happens. Better current flow should help fire the plugs I would think. From what I've read magnetos need solid cores to handle the output they produce so I assume they must be the best.

I ran a magneto for years in my car and always used solid core wires. If I can explain this correctly ... the reason the magneto " requires " solid core wires is that the magneto itself will burn out trying to push the current through a " resistor " type wire.

I got talked into dumping the mag and switching to a MSD this year. I bought a 6A box and a MSD Distributor and am still using the same solid core wires with no issues.
I didnt have a tach in the car when I ran it w/ the MSD but I am certain it spun to 8,000+ RPM and didnt skip a beat.

The HEI should work fine with solid core wires.
