I'm building a Early 70's truck 454 for a street/strip car. What balancer do you all run or recommend? Externaly balanced. w/ a M21 4 speed. Here's my combo and thanks for the help.

2 bolt main 60 over 454 (468)
Stock cast crankshaft
Stock rods w/ ARP bolts
Probe forged pistons w/ press fit pins (10:1 comp. w/118cc head)
Stock (like new) flywheel off of a 1988 mercrusier 454 (boat motor)

The rest of the motor will consist of The summit/dart iron rectangle port heads or maybe the new patriot aluminum heads. With a mild solid roller cam. 6500 rpm max. Roller rockers, Performer rpm air gap intake with 850 carb.

WHats wrong with stock damper? Is that flywheel externally balanced? Question on your combo, have you thought this out? Rectangular port heats and air gap manifold, 850 carb sounds like a 7,000 RPM combo, cast crank, stock rods and mild cam sound like a 5,500 RPM combo. I would take one route or the other;
1: forged crank 7/16 or better rods, rectangular port, air gap, 850CFM, 7,500 RPM combo, or
2: crank, rods that you have, oval port heads, 750 CFM, performer manifold
My own piece is coming together, .070 bore, KB pistons, 9.6 to 1 CR, Edlebrook heads, performer manifold, 750 carb, Crane Hydralic roller cam, everything programed around a 5,500 peak power

wtf???????????

Which balancer for a external balanced 454? < thats the question. Thanks for the other replies. and yes I'm going with a scatter shield. Didn't really think it was a smart idea to use a 30 year old balancer.
