Anyone use the stainless steel magnaflows? They look like a good muffler, a little pricey.

I have a buddy who owns the local muffler shop, he loves the magnaflows, but he also thinks that the distributor belongs in front  I personally(This, like many don't understand, is an opinion) think that they sound no better than a cherry bomb. I can show you a trick whereas I eat a can of black beans and wait a few hours to produce a sound quite like a magnaflow.

Uh oh smile.gif I ordered a set. Im having these put on so they come out in front of the tires. I guess to do it right the in and outlet are on the same side, and nothing on the other side. Flow makes a set of them as does magnaflow, which was my second choice. They are the same price retail but alot cheaper through my work, is it worth concidering cancelling my order? I can change over to the flow series. I just put my order in. Anyone else! Need comments smile.gif :D

They will be fine! Put an X pipe crossover in there and they will be real fine.

Exhaust sounds/systems are tough. You never know what it will sound like till you fire up the car for the first time.

I've got a set of 3.5" MF's with x-pipe behind my 422. It sounds MUCH better(IMO) than the old 3" FM h-pipe system it replaced. It has a more mellow tone and resonates less at low speed compared to the FM's. Of course, the Dynomax Ultraflo would basically sound the same and cost less.

The larger the Magnaflow muffler you use the more mellow the sound. Add an h- or x-pipe and they will sound downright tame at idle.

I have fairly large Magnaflows on the truck which has a pretty mild engine and I think they sound great. Just a soft rumble at idle but they begin to cackle nicely as the RPMs go up.

They certainly sound better than a Flowmaster which to my ears are simply too harsh and tinny sounding.

I use the 12578s aluminized 3" MF muffs. Awesome. They were $70 ea INSTALLED back when you couldn't buy MF's anywhere but an installer. ( chose a straight through design becuase I didn't want the Chevelle to sound like every Mustang I hear - PLUS FlowMaster street mufflers aren't really able to handle 500+ hp well and stay quiet. - run some searches and see ).

Exhaust tone is highly subjective. The only real way to know if a sound is what you like is to listen to a lot of cars and ask the drivers what is on there. I personally wanted a real quiet car - run Dynomax Hemi Turbos (large 20" case). Almost as quiet as originally stock, but that's what I wanted. Each guy is different.

Thanks for all the posts, LOTS of help. Good to hear some opinions. I mentioned before I think, Im having an H pipe put in, and the tips are coming out in front of the rear tires, a look I really love, and will go well with my build up I think, atleast with it's appearance and stance. You say use a straight through design, which I think would be better, 2 different muff. shops said the very best way to do it is getting the type with inlet and out on the same side so it can curl over and out to the tire, there isnt really room elsewhere, especially since the front end is dropped a tad bit. My only other option would be to use some super skinny muffs and mount them up closer towards the front. Like Cherry bombs or something, but I concidered that last year and I dont think so tongue.gif

Whats the performance and sound story on same side style mufflers?

The ones im looking at are P/N 14210 There Stainless and I think they are the oval series, 17" long to the outlets, the base is 14" Long.
