My steering is to loose feeling, someone mentioned getting a quick ratio steering box but at nearly $300 a pop I'd like to explore the alternatives with my stocky pump and box.

First, You should check the rest of the steering linkage and see if any of that is worn/loose.

Next, there is an adjustment screw at the top that I think will slightly tighten the box (maybe ask over in the Suspension and Braking Forum).

You could go also the the wrecking yard and look for used quick-ratio boxes. Not too common, but, I picked one up last year locally. With a rebuild kit (bearings and seals only), etc, I would be looking at under $100...

I bought the rebuild kit from Kragens for about $50+, but check GM, as they might have something too...

The quick ratio box will bolt directly in using you pitman arm, BUT, you will need to adapt the hoses and rag-joint... Not too bad though...

You can use your stock pump with the quick ratio box...

I ended up going with a rebuilt/new unit from AGR (about $320 through Summit). Its very nice, and let me avoid the time of rebuilding mine (I was planning on it, but ended up needing it installed ASAP). So the use one is sitting...

I could make you a deal on all my stuff if you're interested...

I have:

12:1 box (1996 caprice police car, option 9C1), mostly cleaned.

Bearing and seal kit (not sure if the box needs it, but I figured it was worth it.

hose adapters/inserts (Lee Manufacturing)

I should still have a good used ragjoint coupler too...

I also think I have some "exploded view" diagrams for disassembly...

I think the suspension and brake forum might be a little better for this post too...
