: What Are These Seats Out Of ?
Hi,
I just recently bought TonyZ's 68.
The bucket seats that are in it are not original Chevelle seats.
I'm just curious, does anyone know what these seats might have come out of? Tony didn't know either.
Do these seats look familiar at all to anyone?
Thanks.

Bowtie70ss Dec 1st, 07, 7:31 PM Look like 80-81 Camaro seats that have been recovered.
droptop396 Dec 2nd, 07, 8:45 AM I am no expert on the high back seats as I don't care for the looks of them.
To me, the thought that comes to mind is that those are Mopar high backs.
Maybe Camaro, but I am leaning towards Mopar.
Jims71 Dec 2nd, 07, 9:16 AM I've had Challengers and a Cuda and they do look like that, the cover patterns are different and they look foamed a little thicker than stock, other than that they look Mopar.
Jims71 Dec 2nd, 07, 9:30 AM Actually curiosity got the best of me and I went a looked on eBay at Challengers vs Camaros and I now think Dave is right, they are Camaro seats (early 80's). Go take a look on eBay, your best bet.

I did the same thing. I still don't think they are Camaro. I am also not convinced that they are mopar either. The shape of the seat doesn't quite match any of the Mopar or Camaro seats that I looked at. Somebody would have to have some hardcore eveidence to prove they are camaro seats. they could be out of just about anything from the mid 70's - 80's.
I don't know.
gspan1830 Dec 2nd, 07, 11:14 AM They sure do look good in there. Would be nice if the back seat matched them or if they matched the back seat.
Jr_Johnston Dec 2nd, 07, 12:27 PM Those are out of a 70-74 Mopar(Cuda and Challenger),the late 70's early 80 F-Body seat's did not bolt together on the side's,they have pin's with a E-clip.Also the Camaro seat's did not have the headrest's built up like those,just the T/A's and Firebird's.
70 Gold Nugget Dec 2nd, 07, 5:49 PM Jr. is right...I just did a set of TA seats and they do not bolt together like the ones in the picture...mopar...
Bowtie70ss Dec 2nd, 07, 7:47 PM You may be tight about the pins/bolts in the side but I beg to differ about the headrests.

1980-1981 Camaros (I know for sure) had a different style seat. I'm not saying they couldn't be slopar but the pic is just so you know where I was coming from.

Jims71 Dec 2nd, 07, 11:03 PM Yep that's the eBay pic I saw that swayed me Dave!! Like I said I am a recovering E-Body Mopar guy and originally I saw Mopar......but I now agree wholeheartedly based on padding and seat pattern that they are Camaro seats...
Jr_Johnston Dec 3rd, 07, 9:46 AM The seat he has posted is not a F-body,I have 12 pair of F-body bucket seat's,and not a one of them look like that. They are from a mopar

On the Camaro's seat's the frame, and foam are the same from 73-81,just different cover's.Some had zipper back's some had hard plastic back, and some had 2 pieces of plastic sewn into them that one folded into the other.I have owned 15 Camaro's over the past 21 years, and I have work on too many Camaro interiors the last 19 year's.
Georgia69 Dec 3rd, 07, 10:22 AM They look really, really close to a pair of 78-79 Chevy Monza seats I got from a wrecking yard many years ago for my Nova. They were originally all vinyl, so they have no doubt been partially re-upholstered.
70 Gold Nugget Dec 3rd, 07, 5:45 PM Now I agree that they look a whole lot more like F body seats than Mopar seats but you would be amazed at what a good upholstery guy can do with covers...the other thing besides the frames that bug me are the headrest side panels which look way to big for Fbody...they look like a customized pattern which is what one would do to a mopar seat in order to do away with the difficult to sew (and make look right) horseshoes...
Greg can you please get another shot of the back of the seat emphasis on where the top and bottom join together...seat leaning forward...basically what I want to see is the back of the bottom of the seat...all F body seat covers are made a certain way in that area if I am not mistaken...
BTW...they look pretty dang good in your car...if you had them redone in some Madrid grain black vinyl they would be frigging perfect...
Think they might be Monza seats?:

Morin69ss396 Dec 5th, 07, 5:46 AM S-10 maybe ?? who knows? not a chevelle that for sure ! Get rid of them !!
Jr_Johnston Dec 5th, 07, 9:10 AM After looking more I think I might have found them. They look alot like the 70-74 Duster/Dart buckets, that somebody has added the padding to the headrest.

Bowtie70ss Dec 5th, 07, 4:56 PM I wonder if all of those seats were manufactured off site and supplied to GM and Chrysler by some other company and that's why they look so similar? Just a thought.

Here's the back...

Yeah, I'm not too keen on the idea of spending the $300 asking price for a pair of dilapidated, junky Chevelle seats and then another $300+ restoring them.
I'm either going to refurbish these seats that are now in it...remove the rust from the brackets and reupholster them...or else get a pair of new seats that are a good match for the interior.
Here's a pair of new ones that I found.
They are $210 a piece, and they are brand new.
A much better option then spending $600 buying and refurbishing junky seats...in my opinion

70 Gold Nugget Dec 7th, 07, 6:33 PM I still cannot say exactly what they are...next week I get to redo a nice factory Z28 so I will get to look at that seat upclose...I don't really believe they are F body seats though...the thing that will id them for sure is the release mechanism which is located in a rather odd place...smells of mopar but I really can't say...can anybody find a picture of a seat with the same seatback release lever???
Greg I'd refurbish the seats you have with original madrid chevelle vinyl because IMO they would be of a higher quality probably and thus just look better than the 400 dollar seats...
RAGTP66 Dec 9th, 07, 1:46 PM take another picture of the latch that you lift up to tilt them forward I know what the camaro latch looks like I would agree that they look more like camaro style
Jr_Johnston Dec 10th, 07, 8:58 AM The Camaro seat's do not have a release that look's like the one pictured.
