What do you guy's use to heat your garage/shops.
I need ideas.
I have a 30,000 btu vent free natural gas heater that I havn't hooked up because I also have to heat 624 sq.ft. with a 10ft. ceiling for a total of 6,240 cu.ft.
Should I even bother?

I think your 30,000 BTU should be just fine for that area. I have a 50,000 BTU Propane furnace in my 7,500 cubic feet garage. I honestly think I could have got by with less, but that unit was a super deal at the time.

Thanks Don. How much warmer than the outside temperature can you get your garage?
Is your garage insulated?

And how warm do you think I'll be if I hook up the heater, wear insulated coveral's, and have a drop or two of Yukon Jack (sorry Bunz-T).

Lou,
do a search on vent-free heaters.
they make a lot of condensation.
plus use up the oxygen in a sealed room.
they need makeup air.

i installed a 60,000 btu gas furnace in my 6 car garage.
90% model that uses outside air for combustion.
intake and exhaust is done with PVC pipe.

i bought it here...

http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=chainsaw347

they are located in Madison, Ohio.

i picked it up myself.

david

p.s. send me your email addy and i can send you a pic of my furnace.

We are getting snow tonight :hurray: I love snow and am like a kid when it comes down. The only down side, once it does snow and the roads are salted, the Chevelle is in for the winter. Oh well, it's coming so I hope we get a lot this year. I have a TKO swap to do anyways. :)

I was wearing sandals until Thursday.:D

That heater is a lot better than nothing. It should warm the room up at least by 10 degrees. 10 Degrees warmer is great and no breeze you should be just fine.

Lou, I had mine installed when I did a nut and bolt resto on a 69 Camaro about ten years ago. Wouldn't have worked on it over the winter without it.

Yes, my garage is insulated. I essentially just keep it set at about 50*. Primary use of it now is just to keep the moisture out. I can pump it up to 70* and go out there and work in a t-shirt in about 10-15 minutes.

Although it's not a closeup, you can see my setup in this picture. Good luck pal.

David, thanks for that link and for the heads-up on the condensation issue. I'll definately look into those units.
We have a natural gas line that runs out to our grill. My wife has said that she does'nt like the location of the grill and that we should just get a propane unit that is portable. Doing so would free up that gas line. You gotta' love when the wife give you too much information?:D

Don, when my car is done my garage will look that.
Right now, I have the 'velle, the intrigue, lawn equiptment, parts, and all my tools in the garage.
When the Chevelle is done I'll have a storage shed for everything else.

00WS6TA, I share your sentiment. If it's gonna' snow, I hope it shuts down the city.
I've lived in NE Ohio all my life and I remember 1978.

That's what I call snow.
I remember the 8 foot snow drifts and the tunnels we dug through them as kids.

To all you guy's living in warmer climates, I have two words for ya':

I can also remember the blizzard of '78....I was 10 and we had a BLAST playing in the drifts.... I agree,i like those "shut everything down" kind of storms....

I ran an unvented 30.000 BTU infrared in my old garge with no problems, I'll be hooking it up soon in my new garage.

Lou,

I, too, have a NG ventless heater in my oversize 2 car garage with 10 foot ceiling.

Yes, it does produce condensation. It also uses the oxygen up but has a low oxygen sensor built in.

If you plan to use it on a regular basis, day-in and day-out, I'd recoment against it. If you use it like I use mine, every now and then when you have a hand full of hours to work on the car, it will be just fine. If I have it running for a few hours I just open the garage door every now and then. The way I use mine the only place I see condensation is on the windows.

With 10 ft ceilings, I'd mount a circulation fan above it. Exactly what I did with mine and it works great.

For the Ohio guys
Yes we do have a few bad months but when was the last time we had a
Mud slide
Forrest fire
12 Hurricanes a year
Hibernate in the house 7 months a year because it is too hot
Major drought
El Nino winds
Eight lane freeway that moves about as fast as a parking lot
Big earthquakes

And

Cheap cost of living in comparison
Nature actually has four seasons
Trees and grass come in other colors than brown
We really appreciate a nice day, there are so few

Just kidding Bill
