Any ideas on what kind of HP we can expect from the basicly stock rebuild in our '79Z.
.030 350 with hyper flat-tops, stock 882 heads with Z28 springs, Comp Cams 268H, stock intake with Q-Jet. Stock HEI ignition.
Stock exhaust.

I'm hoping for about 240-250 RWHP. Will it make it?

I think the factory rating was what, 190 HP? Will the cam and flat-tops pick it up that much?

Thanks

Dwayne

Is the exhaust stock '79 camaro? The stock pellet cat convertor is horribly restrictive, and the rest of the system isn't much better. With a decent exhaust system (even with stock manifolds) you will pick up a ton of midrange power. Maybe 40-50 hp extra...with a decent exhaust system.

I'd guess 195-200 RWHP.

Well, even with just 200 HP, the 4 speed and 3.73 gear should make for a fun little car for my wife.

I've got a set of Vortecs that I was saving for the 383 for the Chevelle. But, that build looks like it has been put off for a while.

I have kicked around the idea of putting em on the 307 in the Chevelle, but, maybe I should just leave the 307 alone an put em on the Z28.
