: Valve to piston clearance ??

We clay'd the combustion chambers on my 496 and the intake valves are only clearing the piston by .085 with .22 lash. This is alittle tight. Exhaust clear by .145. Should I proceed or stop and flycut the pistons alittle? Cast Iron block , Cast Iron Merline heads, Ross pistons with Scat steel rods and crank. I'd hate to proceed and have problems but to cut the pistons now will be alot of time and $$.
Suggestions or comments appreciated.

IMO .085 on the intake side is enough. Some say .100 min, some say .080. I've had .060 before with no problem. You could retard the cam about two degrees and probably get to .100 intake and still be safe on the exhaust.

I agree, .085 on the intake is plenty with steel rods.
The intake is opening & is not any where near the problem the exhaust is which is closing & subject to bounce or float while being "chased" by the piston.
I have run the intake at .040-.050" to 8500 rpm before but don't recommend it unless you know everything is right. :D
