after briefly watching a story on animal adoption it dawned on me....

They euthanize XXXX amount of sheltered dogs/cats/animals each year, because we can't find them homes and we can't house/feed them all.

Yet we spend $XXXX every year in tax payer dollars to house/feed hardened criminals who ****ed up and should be put down.

Makes me wonder why not do just the opposite...

Makes me wonder too. A dog with no known history of aggression mauls a woman it gets euthanized and often at taxpayer expense. A man with an established criminal history does the same thing he gets to live a long full life more relatively comfortably at taxpayer expense than our soldiers overseas will.
How'd that happen?
