: Barry Grant
Raymond Jul 30th, 04, 4:44 PM The September issue of Car Craft magazine has an article about a new Idle-Eze throttle plate assembly from Barry Grant for Demon/Holley carbs. Has anyone used this item, yet? Does it work well? It is to help with tuning the carb. on engines with big cams.
Laps Jul 31st, 04, 9:58 PM I have one ordered for a race demon carb. I'll let you know, but won't be here till end of August.
dirty_dawg Aug 1st, 04, 11:11 AM Not to go off topic but are Holley and Demon carbs related?
Bob West Aug 1st, 04, 11:19 AM HOlley don't need em....BG used to work for Holley, he stole their design tongue.gif ;)
Raymond Aug 2nd, 04, 6:10 PM Thanks for the replies. I thought that someone with a Demon carb. that came with this idle-eze throttle plate would chime in,also. I was told by Summit that there was a 3-4 week delivery on this item.
BLK64SS Aug 3rd, 04, 8:38 AM You can modify your current Holley very easily to do the same thing. This idea is nothing new, I know of a carb from the 1910's that has this feature.
Its done instead of drilling the throttle plates, I have a Holley 1050 I did this to about 2 1/2 yrs. ago
I surely wouldnt purchase a new carb just to have it.
Also BG worked for Holley ??? I always heard he was a racer who modified Holley's and then got big ..
Tech @ BG Aug 3rd, 04, 10:03 AM The Idle-Eze® is a Patented feature we started putting into all of our Speed Demon, and Mighty Demon series carburetors starting January 1st, 2004. These are intended to make it simpler to install, and fine-tune a carburetor without having to make modifications such as drilling holes in the butterflies.
Barry never worked for Holley®. We modified their carburetors for a number of years, until it became apparent to us that there were changes necessary in the castings to get the type of performance we were looking for. It’s similar to a cylinder head no matter how good the porter is working on your cast iron rectangle port GM heads they’re not going to flow as much as a good set of Dart, or Brodix heads out of the box.
As far as how the Idle-Eze® works, they’re extremely affective if your combination requires it. They allow you to get the proper amount of air into the engine, while keeping the butterflies in the proper relationship to the transfer slots.
If there is anything else we can help with please let us know.

Holley's don't need idle mixture screws either. We could all just drill out the idle discharge ports to get the fuel flow we need. However, it makes the job EASIER, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Either way, even if he did steal Holley's design, it's still a nicer carb. Hard to beat the price, too.
I believe this is a Holley 4150/4160 from the late 50's. Reference: http://www.tocmp.com/manuals/Carbs/Holley/H4V-4150-60-80/index.html
