: Who still has LP'S?
northernforce Nov 28th, 07, 7:36 PM Going through some boxes and found a bunch of LP'S(records) mainly from the mid 70"s--Came across a 5 LPset from 1986(my sister -in -law gave it to me as a Christmas Gift)I never played it--Bruce Springsteen &the E Street Band Live /1975-85 no turntable now-just wondering who else has a hoard of albums just taking up space?keep on cruising -Dave.
depley Nov 28th, 07, 7:39 PM I still have some lp's need a new needle for my turn table but I still love to listen to vinyl. I wish I had all the lp's that were stolen out of my apartment years ago, they took over 250 of them some I will never find again.
As far as sound nothing beats a lp
PaPa Johns 77 Nov 28th, 07, 7:42 PM I have quite a few going back to the 60's!
Have about 300 45's too!:)
SebJr Nov 28th, 07, 7:50 PM Bunches... I'll never get rid of them:noway:
nitrousss Nov 28th, 07, 8:00 PM I have over 3,000 of them black things. Wife keeps threatening to throw them out. I just laugh at her. Keep on spinin'.
davis95 Nov 28th, 07, 8:05 PM A couple hundred or so here. I still listen to some of them that I could never find on CD.
Andy69 Nov 28th, 07, 8:05 PM Got a bunch. I make it a point to thumb through them at thrift shops.
jfkheat Nov 28th, 07, 8:06 PM I have a couple hundred. I also have 75 to 100 78 rpm records for my Edison record player.
James
DUKE 69 Nov 28th, 07, 8:12 PM Still have several hundred 33's and about 200 45's. Some date back to the 50's (my mom was a music nut!). Also have a few 78's kicking around. Just can't bear to part with them and when the mood strikes, I still crank up some of that good ole rock and roll from the late 60's! I'll never get used to the stuff my kids like but it is amazing how much of MY music they really like. I guess good stuff never goes out of style...kinda like Chevelles!
DZAUTO Nov 28th, 07, 8:20 PM Yep, lots of 'um! Both 45s and 33s. LOTS of EARLY Elvis 45s!!!!
I gave away all my 78s (kids albums from the late 40s-early 50s) when I got to big for them in the mid 50s (in Jr Hi/Hi school then).
The ONLY reason that I never play the 45s/33s is because I no longer have a turntable/stereo to play them.
BlueSS454 Nov 28th, 07, 9:13 PM I have a bunch of LP's also. I prefer them over CD's actually. I have every Metallica album on vinyl, and am working on completing my REM collection. I also have some of the original Beatles albums. I usually pick one and play it on those nights where you really don't feel like watching TV, but just sit around and chat for the evening.
Elviss 1971 Nov 28th, 07, 9:49 PM I have about 500 Lps mostly Elvis and the older type of rock, beatles , rolling stones ETC. I also have probably 200 of the 45 RPMs but I really have gotten spoiled with CDs they are so much easier to use.
Cecil Nov 28th, 07, 10:26 PM Got a bunch here but certainly not hundreds. I do, however, have almost 100 old Edison records (the cylinders) and a player - they are a trip to listen to!
55Redneck Nov 28th, 07, 10:50 PM Between the wife and I we have about 500 albums with most of them dating between the 60's-80's. Our oldest daughter (17) who is into nostalgia has been finding a few at garage and yard sales and she's got about 50 or so but hers are older stuff than ours. She likes old big band swing stuff.
Motorhead62 Nov 28th, 07, 11:05 PM I have a couple hunderd albums and love to play them now and again. :D
Dave Nov 28th, 07, 11:13 PM I still got My Falco LP, does that count?:hurray:
:D
rocks66ss Nov 28th, 07, 11:15 PM I have around 500 of them, the best part of that is my 16 year old son discovered all my vinyl, the bad part is I'm starting to get a little tired of Pink Floyd at high db's coming from the basement. some of them over and over and you get my drift
Rocky
OrrieG Nov 28th, 07, 11:17 PM Lots and buy them for a quarter at yard sales. Look for 60-70 rock and old jazz and r&b.
Stalkingbear Nov 29th, 07, 12:20 AM I took a bunch that were not avail as CD's and made my own CD's.... all you need is a turntable, an amp of some sort and then into the computer.... I used 'Clickit' to remove all of the hiss and scratch/pop noises - re configured the sound into a wav file (compressed) and it worked fine.
Did ya know that Bill Cosby made an album?
Not the comedy - he sings!
(And not a bad singer either...)
barryt Nov 29th, 07, 1:26 PM I still have some lp's need a new needle for my turn table but I still love to listen to vinyl. As far as sound nothing beats a lp
I am in same boat I need a new needle/stylist and drive belt for my Garrard (spelling??) lab series turntable. right now I have other things i am spending money on.
about 100 LP and about 75 or so 45s from the 60s and 70s in my collection
Alan Nov 29th, 07, 2:08 PM I have maybe 10 LPs. My turntable still works and I drag it out every now and then to listen to the vinyl :) . Nothing beats the "warmth" or "depth" of sound that LP's have. My dad has a great collection of 60s and 70s rock albums. Not sure if his turntable works anymore though.
mr 4 speed Nov 29th, 07, 2:09 PM I still have about 600-700 of them.
TonyZ Nov 29th, 07, 2:17 PM I have several hundred of them and haven't even thought of playing one in many years. I do have a turntable and my wife wants me to get it up and running to be able to play some LPs. I kinda adjust with the times. CDs and now Ipods (we all have them) and I have an FM transmitter to play it in the car.
1966_L78 Nov 29th, 07, 2:19 PM I only have a few (maybe 15-20)... I picked up 7-10 AC/DC albums at a garage sale for $1 (total for the set)... Not perfect vinyl & not perfect covers, but still cool... I think most of my others are AC/DC too... I guess those were the only ones I kept...
My turntable needs a new needle/cartridge, and now I need a stereo too...
joeyv69ragtop Nov 29th, 07, 2:33 PM I've got a few dozen. I listen to music on my turntable every week!
I listen mostly to new stuff though. Slipknot, children of bodom, pulp fiction soundtrack, opeth. I have a lot of older stuff too, but i really only listen to the new stuff. I think i have almost all of the beetles albums. one of my favorites is bob segar.

Some iPod commercial comes to mind...
bowtie6872 Nov 29th, 07, 4:26 PM Some iPod commercial comes to mind...
it be nice if they made one with changeble harddrive-cartriges...
that way I could have 1 ipod and hard drives it plug into it for each gender..
60's/70's/light rock/hard rock/big band/country/metal/dance/pop/etc,etc,etc.
I have a few dozen from the '70's. Rarely play any but just can't throw them or the turntable out.
70 beater Nov 29th, 07, 5:57 PM Have between 700-800 here.Lots of heavy metal, rock n roll, old punk, with a little country and odd stuff, some Sinatra.Try to play at least one a week, the kids think they're neat.Years ago I had a bunch that got stolen, would've put it close to 1,000.I think I like the sound better than c.d.s,but have many more of those than l.p.s.
mdrustad Nov 29th, 07, 6:23 PM I still have a "Peaches" peach crate full of vinyl and a Peach crate that isn't put together yet. I remember purchasing those crates in Milwaukee, WI when I was through there on a trip in about 1980 or '81.
They came unassembled..........remember??

Got mine at Schultz Brothers in Portage Wi.! Yep, had to assemble them!
72 malibu Nov 30th, 07, 9:00 AM Have all of mine , still use them all the time, love the analog sound. Now my parents should never have given me a bb gun and their 45 collection. I would see how many 45's I could go through with different amount of pumps on the gun.We are talking Sun 45's , Elvis, Jerry Lee, I know they are worth something now, back in the 70's who cared.
boget Nov 30th, 07, 9:12 AM About 10 years ago, I weeded out maybe a third to a quarter of mine, but I still have between 250-275. Mostly stuff from the mid-60s to the early 80s. Paid I think $400 for an audiophile turntable (a Linn Basik) between 15 and 20 years ago since the quality of the audio source can never be improved downstream by a good amp, speakers, etc - it is what it is.
67pete300 Nov 30th, 07, 9:51 AM I've got all my 80's records (Van Halen, Beastie Boys...) plus my sister's 80's Europop (Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins...) plus my parents' crazy mix of showtunes, Sinatra, Beatles, classical, classic country...
My record player bit the dust during my last move, but I got another one for Christmas last year! You can still get one at Best Buy pretty cheap...
I still got My Falco LP, does that count?:hurray:
:D
I have one of these too. I won an EP of "Rock me Amadeus" as a door prize at a high school dance.
Brimaster Nov 30th, 07, 12:57 PM I have around 500 or so from 60's-90's.
I really enjoy vinyl. I am made a lot of my own CD's already but have not put my turntable back together from when we moved so they are all still in boxes.
I have some LP frames and have a lot of the car themed LP's in them. Some of the cover art or photos are really cool.
I was reading that they make a turntable that does not use a needle but some form of a laser to read the vinyl. I was thinking of spending the money to get one of those but I have not seen much about them and I don't think a Circuit City or Best Buy would have it. Would need to go to a higher end electronics store I would think.
flink69SS Nov 30th, 07, 1:08 PM I still got My Falco LP, does that count?:hurray:
:D
If you weren't as big as you are, I might have had to smack you for that one...;)
ATTN.- NEEDLES... I have this great shop in Seattle that carries 100's of replacement needles. If anyone needs help finding one PM me and I'll see if I can help you out. I also listen to records several times a week.
doc j Nov 30th, 07, 2:08 PM Have a couple hundred, working turntables, too.
Anyone have reel to reels? Got three and a bunch of tapes.
70 beater Dec 1st, 07, 5:44 PM Stalkingbear,Mike, helped me with trying to get set up to convert my l.p.s to c.d,following some of his links I stumbled across a tutorial, thought I'd put up a link for anyone else who is interested in the conversion.

1968SS427 Dec 9th, 07, 1:30 PM I started collecting 45's back in 1957-58 after my older Brother gave me this Elvis, Platters, Satins and a bunch of Doo-Wopp records. I how have around 3,500 45's(50s & 60's- some 70&80s) and about 650 LP's( loads of Elvis, Beatles & Stones).
I haven't collected in over 12 years now and the collection is all neatly and safely stored away in my garage....... just waiting for me to die so my wife can chuck them into a DUMPSTER along with my die-cast collection after I'm gone.
................. It's a cruel world
