SO I get a nice aluminum floor jack from Jegs, or so I thought.

Thanksgiving I switch out my rear springs which is the 3rd time I use the thing and it springs a leak.

Sure enough it's made in China. Of course Jegs will replace it but it ain't going to be cheap to mail a 50lbs jack back to them.

SO I stop by NAPA last night and look at there monster 3.5 ton jack. Sure enough it's made in China.

I want to get one made in USA that is going to last awhile. So I can use it when I want to instead have to mail it around the country or drive around looking to exchange it.

Hein-Werner still has Made-in-USA jacks. They also sell pos imports. You gotta be sure which is which before you pay. Some of the other companys are the same way.

My Backhawk SJ-2 finally sprung an internal leak after 30 years of fairly good service. I had to make some repair to it very early due to the parallel links which keep the saddle horizontal becomming sloppy because the anchor points became loose. Ly redesign/repair is still working. Back to the hydraulic issue. I looked into some repair parts for it and they tell me the only thing available is a seal kit for over $100+!!!! It leaks down slowly with load or even slower with out load. Seems like it would be a valve seat of some kind. But $100+??? I guess I'll be looking for another jack too!

A few years ago I'm in the local napa store, and this guy that didn't look to prosperous, buys a two ton floor jack.

I'm thinking why didn't he go to wholesale sams or someplace like that.

It was close to $250 or $300. After he wheeled it out, I ask the owner of the store, why didn't he buy a bigger jack for that kind of money.

He said, that guys in the auto salvage business, he knows what he's doing.

Awhile after that I bought one, and then a second one just like it, have had them quite a while, there pretty low and wide enough to be stable.

I had a one ton dually, four door, eight foot box, I fixed it up, a lot of mechanical work, that took a little bit of floor jacking, and I have lifted a lot of pickups since.

Never ever had a problem with them, my other floor jacks set and collect dust.

One thing to keep in mind about "who manufactures what" for big companies is; maybe some different manufacturer got the contract this year.

We can't say I have had great luck with a "Craftsman jack so they are good NOW.

Same with batteries and other things.

As an example, my nephew worked at Delphi battery plant here and some years they got the contract for the Die Hards and many other brands and some years some other company got the contracts.
Then the contracts all went out of the country so Delphi shut down completely.

I bought a Craftsman 2 1/2 ton floor jack back in the 70's, Its pro looking type, not one of those short toys out there that comes in a carrying case, still working PERFECT today. I checked where it was made a few months back.. Japan...

looks like if you have to buy from U know where, Norco is the way to go.

the US made jacks for $5-600 is a bit steep for me seeing it isn't making me any money. Though a couple of hundred is fairly realistic if its going to last me. Now the trick is top find a good one locally so if it does go bad I'm not dropping another $45 to mail it somewhere like what it cost me to send back to Jegs.

every tool i've seen that was blessed with the Goodwrench logo has been made in China, and were some of the cheapest looking tools i've ever seen.

I have an OTC 1717
http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/OTC-1717.html

I bought mine a couple of years ago; the price was lower then!

it's similar to this one:

http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/OTC-1525.html

Made in USA (I think), Lifetime warranty, $265 + shipping.

I bought a aluminum one from Costco (like Sams Club) for $250 and the box says Made in USA right on it. Once I got it out of the box the castings say R.O.C. - Republic of China. Must have been assembled in US, and casted in China. Anyway it's already toast after 8 months with minimal use. I was lifting the front of the chevelle up a few weeks ago and heard a large POP. Now it takes 3 times the strokes to get it to lift. Must have blew a seal or something??? Not sure.

Hein-Werner is owned by the Chinese. They took the brand out for a while then brought it back to the US. Profits go to China, if you care (I do).

OTC 2 1/4 ton Floor Boss #1525 uses a cylinder from Japan. The rest is made and assembled here so profits stay here. About $250. Good jack. The 1717 is 100% made here and is $400 or so. All have a lifetime guarantee and you can get parts. You can usually find them with free shipping if you do a little web digging.

I purchased a 2 ton from advanced auto parts, worked good for 3 months returned and replaced. Replacement lasted 1 month. Bought new one from Napa and it has worked great for a year now.

I second the Lincoln jack. Built in the USA and very beefy. I wouldn't use anything else. http://www.jackxchange.com/products/HW93642.cfm I believe that the Lincoln is now a Hein Werner.
