I was given a TH400 from a van. It has a bolt on yoke. Is this a true TH400? If so, does it have any different parts than a normal TH400 strength wise? Is the bolt on yoke good for performance applications? The different driveshaft isn't an issue since I will have to have one made anyway. Thanks guys.

was the trans out of a big van like a box van or P chassis or bread truck?? because i think alot of those had the bolt in yoke to sometime accomadate the special single drum parking brake that would hang off the tail section, before the driveshaft, it might also have a 2.75 low gear rather than a 2.40, which may not be so desirable depending on your situation...

Just unbolt the rear drive shaft flange and tap it off. A standard 400 slip yoke should slide right on.

The 2.75 low deal is another urban legend. The only thing to look for in some of the HD 400's is a straight-cut gearset, but in the same normal ratio, there was never a 2.75 low in an OEM production trans. Are you still racing any at all John?

I was wondering, seems like I used to see you over here at CFR every so often years ago. About the only race related stuff I do are trannies still, and I try to make the Earlville NHRA Div 5 race each fall, and the IHRA Pro Am here in Cedar Falls. Kind of fun to see a lot of friends that I used to see much more often, but now I am married and have a 4 1/2 yr old, so my driving is on hold for a while at least. Take care!

well i have to say i really miss CFR most of all probably, always a good time:
sleeping in car trailer, during severe t-storm and tornado warning  because didn't have enough cash for a room, and then when the rain passed the pit next to us cranked up skid row for an hour at around 2:30 am.
winning enough money the next day to get a room at the red fox inn for the rest of the weekend(a good nite sleep is over rated in racing)IMO
stopping at the quick trip
